Good morning, 28 and cloudy, we did get our three inches over the past week.

I think Jane's pie-chee-ams are a sandwich popular when I was a kid, pineapple, cheese and ham on a toasted bun?

Amy

Good morning..

Another chilly day with a starting temp of 20°. A day of rest here. Will throw something??? in the IP for soup and worry about the rest later.

Patricia, snow is in the west and yes I know it is heading this way but hopefully after the two Dr visits. I now remember Jane talking about that bun before..now is that a pineapple ring? I think I would be inclined to use drained crush pineapple.

Phyllis, we did get some rain here but like you could use more. Talked with a lady yesterday an she mentioned wells going dry.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good morning everyone,
Sad to hear about drought conditions and people's wells going dry. So very stressful.

It's intermittently poured the last couple of days. Yesterday it rained so hard Ron (who was trying to work out there) couldn't see and had to take breaks. The hail and lightening stopped him also. He brought up refilled LP tanks and a new, more efficient heater. He also brought the dowel and curtain rd brackets. The door blanket is helping! Ron's elk season begins this week. He wants to be sure I have enough supplies he doesn't have to stop hunting to come here.

This morning was 33°F. Its supposed to be sunny today, high near 60°F. Possible snow/rain mix this evening or tonight. Tomorrow's low is forecasted for 28°F. Then it will return to lows in the 30°s and 40°s. I'm working on hand spinning so I can knit a new sweater, socks and gloves. Be awhile before I get enough for a sweater. The last time I knit this sweater I think it took me 13 large balls.

Where's the "Pie?" :-X

patricia19

It's snowing out and 21 presently. I hope everyone is having a good, warm and cozy day.

Amy, my memories date back to the fifties, and I think canned pineapple rings were a thing back then. I don't know if they had crushed pineapple. I think the bun was toasted in the oven.

JaneS

Hello Everyfriend!  First I'll tell you what picheeams are.  They are a carry-over from Girl Scout Camp.  We made them over the campfire back then.  Now I do them in a frying pan.  You need one can of Spam, 4 slices of pineapple and some cheese.  You slice the Spam across the top so you have 4 large slices and you brown them in a frying pan. (I'm thinking you could brown them in an air fryer, too) Then you put a slice of pineapple and some cheese on top and put a lid on it on very low heat until the cheese melts and then eat it on a hamburger roll.  Easy and tasty!  They take about 20 minutes to finish!

Now I have to tell you where I was yesterday!  I took a walk after Frankie picked up Cooper and when I got back, I added some steps by walking past the porch down to my shed.  When I came back, I tripped over the bottom step and went down and clunked my head!  When I was getting up, I realized I had a lump that was bleeding.  I covered it and headed for the bathroom and stuck my head under the faucet.  Then I realized that the lump was ENORMOUS!  I called my daughter Cathy and told her I needed help and maybe a trip to the ER at the hospital.  She and her hubby both showed up and they agreed that I needed to go to emergency.

The end of the story is that I had the lump treated, it still hurts a bit, and i need to ice it 4 times a day!  I'm amazed that nothing els was damaged!!!
And that's why I wasn't around last night!  I'm OK but I'm sure going to be careful about those steps Cathy and Christy and Philip are discussing what thay might do about the steps so this doesn't happen again.  I'm just grateful that it wasn't worse!

I wish you a peaceful night's sleep and a great day tomorrow!  Make it your own day and be sure to tell us how you did that!

Jane, going to wrap you up in bubble wrap! Maybe someone should spend the night with you.
Would a ramp instead of stairs help? We have a ramp front and back , no stairs for Kyle .
Thank you for explaining about the piecheeams , sounds like something we are going to try.
Have a good night.

I found this online for the ham, pineapple, and cheese sandwich,

"Invented in the 1950s by German TV cook Clemens Wilmenrod, Toast Hawaii quickly became a symbol of post-war innovation in Germany. Combining ham, pineapple, and melted cheese, this open-faced sandwich was broiled to achieve a perfect balance of sweet and savory flavors

Amy

Good morning..

A little warmer this morning ,starting off at 23°. Picking up a few things in town then home to bake.

Jane, hope you had a good nights rest.

Patricia, thank you for the explanation  of the sandwich. I do want to try this..

Enjoy your day and stay safe..

You're a bit higher, but we're a bit lower. Finally made it below 40° to 38°.  Still waiting for that first frost. There's a nice bright sun out there this morning but the birds are all hiding.

Amy, pineapple rings were a big part of socializing in the fifties, at least as I knew it. That and jello, which showed up at every tea or luncheon.

It's 18 degrees, icy, with a dense fog out there. Marilyne, in Norm's, posted the perfect poem for today;

Gray Fog

A fog drifts in, the heavy laden
Cold white ghost of the sea --
One by one the hills go out,
The road and the pepper-tree.

I watch the fog float in at the window
With the whole world gone blind,
Everything, even my longing, drowses,
Even the thoughts in my mind.

I put my head on my hands before me,
There is nothing left to be done or said,
There is nothing to hope for, I am tired,
And heavy as the dead.

Good morning...

Another  chilly morning with a temp of 20°. Rain on Thur  and hope it isn't going to turn into snow.

Baking done now to split some kindling if the day goes well.

Jane, we had your Pie-chee-ums for lunch...you forgot to say how addicting they are!! Hope you are feeling better and no headache.

Patricia, how are you doing?

Running late so better put an egg in my boot and beat it..

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good morning, 12, mostly sunny.

Amy, I'm doing okay, all the blues have gone yellow.

OnLonelyMountain

Good afternoon all,
28°F outside, 44°F inside when I got up. Wearing my outerwear inside, including the snow packs. Its supposed to get up to 48°F outside. So far we're  at 34°. Yesterday it snowed most of the  day, then the temp climbed to 50°, with rain. Nothing stuck. Later this afternoon I need to go out and finish completely draining the RV.

Wow Jane! Glad it wasn't worse!!😱

RAMMEL

Good morning anyone.  Getting a bit chilly here in the mornings, so I guess Fall is here. The falling leaves attest to that.

Good morning Rick, and everyone else!
I 'm happy to report that this morning is much warmer. Inside temp was 53°F. I have it up to 60°F on the first generator run. Of course tomorrow morning is forecasted to be 28°, but for today I will enjoy the warmth!

The tamaracks are yellow, the rose hips are red, the sky is grey and dripping. Its fall.💨 🍂

phyllis

The tulip poplars and hickory trees are yellow,  the oaks are turning slowly to a russet brown, the crepe myrtles are bare.  And, we have finally gotten some rain!.

I don't know how you tolerate those temperatures, OLM! Hope you will be able to go back to the farm soon.

Is the head doing better today, Jane?

Amy, have you  ever  canned fiddle head ferns?  They  are a favorite  of mine.

Good morning Phillys!

Me neither! 😬 Its only because I have to. I tell myself, "If eskimos and Laplanders can do it..." There is no place in this world thats safe for people like me: Living hard is better than dead. So long ago I made a plan: what I would need to live the safest I'm able. Every year that I survive, we get closer to achieving it. Other people's choices defer or derail my plans, but despite the set backs I must move forward. I must count my blessings. I had a number of toxically injured friends who I watched conscript their family member's lives. The family members were enslaved by their care. I don't want that for my family members (their whole lives revolving around my illness!), so I ask, not demand. I accept what they give. I encourage them in "self-care" and living their own lives to the fullest. That means, yeh, I endure cold, loneliness, and other hardships. Its better than being tortured and maimed to death. I've been on the rim, circling the drain, many times. Being warm and comfortable isn't "wonderful" if anything in that environment is killing you. Its the choice I have to weigh.

Today, the outside temp is currently 42°F. Inside its 58°F and the heat is off. For now I'm warm.😊 I'll start the gen/heater in 17 minutes or so.

patricia19

Good morning, nine cloudy degrees presently, warming up to thirty and then forty with rain on Friday. On temperatures, thirty or forty degrees can mean one thing in a dry climate and another in a wet climate.

I've read Phyllis and Rick's comments about Fall beginning and know that winter has already arrived in the Arctic. It reminds me about how far apart we actually are. Our actual full snowfall happened on the 20th and will remain until April. Although we have more rain than snow with climate change.

Nothing really going on here, two medical appointments and a lot of restructuring, hopefully short term.

Other than that, I hope everyone has a day, just as they like it, echoing what Lloyd used to say.

Amy

Good afternoon

The morning went poof on me!
Always something needed doing that I hadn't  planned on.
We  started out at 20 with a heavy frost that we would share with Rick!
Still need to prepare an area for Mr. SB.

Phyllis no I haven't,  I also enjoy them along with wild leeks. Wild leeks are good pickled and dried too.

Jane, how are you?

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Off to the Dr later on, but have time to do some work around here first.

Patricia, are you still colourful?

Better get the day on the go..

Rick, I still don't have a clear picture of where Melissa is going, but it looks like it will stay off the coast at least until it gets up to past PA. The rain we have now is from a system coming from the west, southwest that is keeping Melissa from moving inland earlier.

It was 48o when I got up this morning, 52o now, rain is coming down at a good clip, but not pouring, wind fairly calm. Looks like it will be stopping in about an hours, with some more showers coming in later.

Plans for today include handwashing some dishes, putting laundry away, attempting to finish up a library book I am listening to before the next one becomes available. Got plenty of things to go through to see if I can get rid of more clutter.

patricia19

Good morning, a cloudy 25 presently with showers expected on Friday. Morning routines and daily tasks done when and as I can. Amy, I'm more colorful than ever as everything heals.

I've kept busy arranging this and that with some group or another group, and seeing what is and isn't available. Everything is hurry up and wait.

Amy

Good morning

Another much needed rainy day here,we will take that! Not sure what today will bring but something will. Temp started at 39° and apparently going down  from there!.

I noticed yesterday, that now the leaves are coming off ,the trees you see more of the past wind damage.

Enjoy your day and stay safe

Good morning, 35 & cloudy presently, with snow and rain this afternoon turning to snow this evening.

Not much going on other than the usual routine. I will be interviewing some house cleaners and caretakers today and possibly looking into online groceries, but that's it other than paying those pesky bills.
