I looked up Hal's link and I have been directed there previously. He writes with an extremly conservative, right wing bias so you need to understand that going in. If that is to your taste and influence, fine.

halkel

Angel.  I seek information where I can find it.  Drudge is a good source of information from every faucet of the press.  Conservative, Liberal, Independent and God only knows what.  Some is grundgy and some is news that you will not find in the main street media, which is very liberal and much of their news is by omission, by that I mean they ignore news because it is extremely negative to the person they support.

Dudge report was the first to publicly disclose the information about Bill Clinton and the blue dress.  Now that is not something you don't discuss in polite society but should be reported, Bill Clinton did the deed, which many want to ignore or forget.

Hal, each and everything we read, listen to or absorb is biased in some way. That's simply the nature of things. I remember years ago that a large spurt in community schools in S.E. Alaska resulted from students going to either Canadian or American schools, whichever was closer and this was with both Canadian and US children.

The reason for the building boom when previously they had been happy with the situation? Aaron Burr was taught to be a hero which he was to the British and the Canadians. The US parents, of course, felt differently and were upset by their children learning differently.

Everything is not only open to interpretation, but you must factor in the news anchors or writers parent company and their views. Look to where the money comes from and you will find a source of that bias. Now you and I while friends, sit on opposite political viewpoints which is fine as we need fewer absolutes and more ideas in my opinion.

halkel

Angel all the more reason to read both sides of a story.

Sandy

We all know what The Drudge Report is.
Like minded people love him and those who differ
in the views,  avoid him like the plague.    Kinda like Rush..

We all have our own favorite news sources,  depending
on our political leaning...  liberal vs conservative.

And so it is!!!
:argue: :banghead: :bash:

Unfortunately,  US news is all about politics, terrorism,
and gun violence ...   so we all must find our own little
nitch to call our own.

And so it is!

I saw the Bloomberg article yesterday and was surprised that if wasn't one of the big marketing research companies like Akami or Harris that they talked about. I never heard of this company although I have seen a few of those subscription ID services, like the one (forgot it's name) that advertised to people who wanted to look up their dates or children's boyfriends to see if they had a record. Looks like this comapny goes way beyond that. I can see the potential for someone using (or hacking into) such a service to gain information to use in various nefarious activities.

Hi everyone on another hot and humid day but with the chance of a thunderstorm in the afternoon.  I will be going to Sunday School and Church in about little bit, pick up something for our main meal today and then spend the rest of the day quietly and restfully.

It seemed like yesterday I spent most of the day in the kitchen.  Not being a cook everything I do in the kitchen seems to take a long time.  However, I got it done.  I actually fixed some sausage muffins for Pat's breakfast for the next few days and they turn out well.  I fixed sort of a soup/stew for our dinner last night although the crock pot did most of the work.

Pat is not feeling any better but fortunately when she is sitting in her easy chair her sciatic nerve does spasm or hurt.

Sandy, I am one of the fortunate ones who have little problem with medicines.  One reason we have decided to keep all of our medical treatments in the University Hospital system is the My Chart.  We were used to this type of system with Kaiser.  Unfortunately the two systems cannot communicate.

MaryPage, A/C failures are so unpleasant.  Glad you were able to stay comfortable with the big fan.  Glad you are a "cool lady".  :)

I agree with you all concerning the commercials during the opening ceremonies of the Olympics.  I did find the explanations of the opening show helpful.  I watched some of the parade of countries but grew tired of it and turned it off and went to sleep.

Patricia, I think I probably brought up the subject of some additional help.  Sorry I got my comment misdirected.  That seems to be happening more and more.  Fortunately, everyone here is understanding of each other as I know you are.  Interesting information on the ranking of health care systems in different countries.

Larry, have I ever told you I think you are a GREAT husband?  If not, please forgive, as I have had reason to think it over and over and over again.  I am sending you a cyber Great Husband trophy.  Seriously.  I do not jest.
Gorgeous day here on the bay.  The glistening waters out there are full of white sails interspersed with the long wakes of a few power boats.  And Somewhere out there on the Chesapeake, or in one of its many nooks and crannies (did you know the entire shoreline of this mightiest of estuaries amounts to MORE mileage than all of the left coast and east coast and gulf coasts COMBINED?), lies a small fishing boat (powered) with great grandson Ezra aboard with his grand uncle Steve.  For the second time this summer, Ezra's parents, Paige & Alex, have been indulgent with their 5 year old and brought him from Baltimore for a fishing lesson.  I think they are probably on the boat with him, as is his grandfather, Greg.  Please everybody reading this, say a little prayer that Ez catches his first fish today!  He learned about the rod & reel last time, but caught nothing.  Doesn't your heart twist painfully when you contemplate a five year old boy yearning to actually pull up a fish?  So does mine!  So pray already!
I have a couple of letters to write, and then will sink into my favorite chair and finish the Sunday paper and mebbe, actually most certainly, take a little Sabbath Nap.

Only two pics today, storm hit just they got there.  Hope it moves on.

Good morning everyone from the Interior!

Ezra caught THREE fish!  A spot and two perch.  So he got to go out on the boat AND caught his first fish.  Huge day for a five year old!  Thanks for the wishing for him.
Oh, and almost best of all, Uncle Steve let him steer the boat a little bit when they were almost back home!

angelface555

Sounds like he had a wonderful time MaryPage! Isn't there a song about that? "Wishing and Hoping"

Mary Ann

Nothing unusual today.  Tom was gone for the weekend; he went to see friends in Petoskey MI.  Last week Saturday he was in Traverse City to attend a wedding and this weekend he was able to stay and visit with the groom's family.  He had said he'd be home late, but at 6 pm my doorbell rang (had the storm door locked) and there was Tom.  He had a good time but he was ready for a nap.

I don't think I posted earlier but Dot and I did our usual - church, then The Cholesterol Pit (Mr Burger) where we gabbed for about an hour over hamburgers.  I stayed home this afternoon but Dot was to attend the 35th birthday party of her oldest grandson, the father of Peter, one of her great-grandsons.

MaryPage, what a thrill for Ezra.  Oh, to be five again (NOT).  He should remember the day forever.

Mary Ann

JeanneP

Mary Ann.  Oh! I don't know. Maybe it would be nice again to be 5 years old if we could come as a Boy.  I was more boy than girl growing up. (much as I was allowed). Don't know if I would have wanted to be a man though as a grown up.  I see now though that one can decided later in life and get changed.  Who would have thought.  I know about 3 people now who have they seem to enjoy life still.

I am unable for some reason to use the gallery. Would someone who uses it on this site, be able to explain it to me?

MarsGal

What is a spot, MaryPage? I am not familiar with that name for a fish.

larryhanna

Hi everyone.  We have a good chance for a thunderstorm this afternoon and a predicted high of 90 degrees although we usually exceed the prediction.

After church yesterday I stopped at Ruby Tuesday's and placed to To Go order for lunch for Pat and then while that was being prepared I went nearby and got myself a Firehouse Hot sub to take home.  By the time I got back to Ruby Tuesday's the meal was ready. I then had a quiet, peaceful and restful afternoon.  Later a friend from church stopped by and we visited for an hour or so.  We did watch some of the Olympics last evening.

Today will be busy as need to get a few groceries in preparation for dinner with Scott this evening, attend my noon meeting and then get the dinner preparations underway.

MaryPage, I have always tried to be a good husband.  Thanks for your kind words.  Interesting facts about the estuaries mileage. I was happy to see that Ezra was able to catch three fish.  I bet he was one tired little boy last night.

Joan, are the bikers able to find enough motel rooms or do they camp out?

Mary Ann, it sounds like Tom has many friends and so nice they can often get together.

Jeanne, were I given a choice about being 5 again I think I would decline the offer.

Patricia, I don't use the gallery so am not able to provide any help.

MaryPage

I have been fishing in my lifetime, found I would rather be at home reading, and let go of it.  So I have absolutely no knowledge of fish from the viewpoint of the sport.  Now fish happens to be one of my favorite FOODS, so I know a lot from the partaking of side of the matter.

So I don't know from Spot, but was just passing along what I was told.  Here is a website about them:

http://www.chesapeakebay.net/fieldguide/critter/spot

MarsGal

Goodness, never heard of them, but I have heard of croakers which are closely related. Wikipedia says Spots are a protected species in the Chesapeake and that Hampstead, NC holds an annual Spot Festival. They are good to eat and appear to be an important food fish; the list of predators is rather long. I can see why the Chesapeake Bay powers that be want to see many of these little fish around. They attract the bigger, more interesting fish, and hence fishermen, to the area.

MaryPage

There ya go!  Now you are spot on about Spot, as it were!

Ezra didn't exactly pull in a whale, though he was sure up for it!  I wonder how big those fish are going to be by the time he is telling his kindergarten class next month about his summer fishing on the bay!

By the way, I was just kidding about the whale.  We do not, as a normal thing, see whales here on the bay.  I have heard tell that humpbacks have been sighted well south of here, but they are not normal for Chesapeake Country.

angelface555

Good morning from the Interior! Another cloudy day and bored Farrah. You can now tell she is only itching for something, anything to happen and often comes up taps my leg and asks for attention. I feel sorry that I'm not as spry as
I used to be and can't fling the feather or mouse on a string as I used to!  :-\

I have always loved to fish. I remember once, when I was eight, that I was so frustrated at a Grayling following, then backing off from my line that I climbed a nearby small tree and hooked the fish, right before I fell in and had to be fished out!  ::) However, that fish was still on my line!

So I can imagine Ezra's joy at catching his first fish AND getting to steer the boat! What a happy, tired little boy he must have been and kudos to Uncle Steve for giving him a day to remember!

While I wouldn't want to be young or at least that young again, I've often thought about knowing what I know now and having my mobility back.

Mary Ann

Patricia, I used to fish with my dad and I could put the worm on the hook, but I let Dad take off the fish - if I were so lucky.  All we caught were pan fish - sunfish, blue gills and such.  I liked the fish, but they were so bony.

I feel for Kendrick that he needs someone to play with and I'm not that person.  I do try to pay attention to him, but he isn't having much of it.  I let him out on the deck occasionally and I go out with him.  He noses around, sometimes lies down, but he usually looks for some activity such as birds flying overhead.

Tom is home, tired, but had a good time.  Of course, his time there wasn't long enough to see everyone, but he made the most of it.

Mary Ann

angelface555

MaryAnn, along the river, if you wanted to fish, you baited your own hook and cleaned your own fish. We were not allowed to go up the river until we were seven so teaching us to clean our fish was easy and catching a 17 to 22-pound grayling, rainbow trout or sheefish was so exciting and especially having it for dinner knowing you provided it.

The river played a significant part in my life, and we spent most of the summer up along the Salcha, Chatanika and other rivers with like-minded folks. We used lures or fly fished in the Interior, however, I used worms in the states.

I'm not familiar with the fish in the states except Colorado, but fishing in my childhood was a family thing, and we were helping to provide.

I wouldn't mind taking a trip to visit someone, especially if that someone lived in sunshine!

wjoan

Larry, the group made reservations at the campgrounds and are stayingt there.  No cooking allowed so they do have to go out to eat.  Evidently after being greeted by a storm, they are now due for another one to hit.  Not good bike riding in all that mud. Oh well, stuff happens.

angelface555

Joan, I've heard of Sturgis all my life, mostly myth and legend and always meant to go someday. So much of life is in those "somedays."

MarsGal

Now there is another fish name I've never heard - sheefish. I looked it us to find that is a whitefish, a name which I have heard (and eaten). I did not know that whitefish are part of the Salmon family, but I can see the resemblance from the photos. Lovely looking fish.

JeanneP

Now if I could have the same family. Grow up where I did in UK. Not loose all the people that I lost in the War years. Also 2 brothers and father at a young age. Then I would be 5 again. But all in all life has been good and so will leave space on earth for another person. Hope life will be good for them.

Just went to ENT doctor this morning. What a crowd the place had. But mine was fast. Just deadened my nose. Stuck a camera up. Says all looked clear to him. Raspy voice just from Sinus so take same med and Use a Saline wash in nose. Also didn't realize that Acid Re flux could also make you lose voice.
The new Air filter system I put in seems to help a lot. Always good to check things out though.

Angel, me too.  My someday included a trip to Italy.  That someday never came either.  Cannot complain tho as I did get to see a few of the U.S. States thanks to S N Bashes.  :)

Mary Ann

At 92, I don't have any more travel dreams.  I am fortunate that I was able to visit Denmark and Germany, source of my ancestry, also England, but I did not visit ancestral places there.  I saw Mayan ruins in Guatemala and I've seen a lot of the US, but not all 50 states.  One I wanted to visit was Alaska and I made it there.  Jim would have wanted to go to Hawaii again, but I wasn't enthusiastic enough so we went elsewhere.  I also took a lot of nice trips with my dad before he died, especially out West.  I have no more travel wishes.  And I hope to go to Indy next month, per their request.

Mary Ann

angelface555

Joan, my dream was of Ireland as I'm Irish, and the British transported my ancestors from Ireland. Both of my sisters and both parents saw Europe altho my Dad might have wished for better circumstances than WWII.

My mother had dated a Turkish Attache and saw Turkey before the war, and I learned of this after her death. Also that she was married before my father to one she lost in the early days of WWII. Why don't parents tell their children these stories?

My younger sister traveled quite a bit in Europe and for sometime dated a guy from Florence and my older sister retired to Tuscany. I decided to do my adventuring with husbands unfortunately.

MaryAnn, I have seen 46 states and most of western Canada and some trips to Mexico, so I suppose I will have to be happy with that.
