I just wished our Joan had told us earlier that she had not been feeling well for several days, instead of fearing what some members might have thought of her as being a " winger " ( Joan's words not mine. ) If she had, we could have prayed for her sooner, rather than later...Anyway I guess my remark wont go down well with some, but I will take that risk, I am posting it anyway..

Joan, once again, today you are in my prayers and thoughts that you come out of this at the other end, we miss you, I miss you...you have been-are, one of our most valued and loyal members in Soda Shoppe...

Lloyd Hammond

Good Morning everyone!
Vanilla-Jackie I suppose it is the time deference but you seam to be the early bird here. that is ok . you know what they say the early bird gets the worm.
Have a great day. Hope we get a good report on Bis today. I pray she is much better today.

Lloyd

Amy

Good morning
EVERYONE knows Joan is not a complainer or whiner Joan is a beautiful lady that makes the most out of a day. She is always looking on the bright side.... she doesn't doesn't make innuendos of others.
I thoroughly enjoyed this site, that is until someone got a burr under their saddle and  like a dog with a bone won't let go of it. I think it is time to put on their big girl panties and deal with it.

Now I understand why some men would count change instead of counting kisses.

Mary Ann..."I had a check on my skin cancer surgery and all is well".... my brain is not working well these days, I wanted to comment when I first read your post & see that I did not.  Somehow I missed your surgery, hope it doesn't require chemo as follow up.  Glad you are doing well.

June, I am so sorry about your fall.  Must say your pain sounds like a cracked rib, I did that 4x over the years and each time the pain was the same.... For 6 weeks almost to the day, taking a deep breath or coughing was agony.  My doctor didn't bother taking an X-ray as I had no other bruises or bangs, just did something dumb that only pushed against a rib, but the pain was the same & that 6 week time was the same.  No doubt yours is much worse since you banged up your whole body.  You take care, my sweet friend, prayers and thoughts of comfort for you.

I have errands to run today, still cold wind blowing, y'all take care while I'm out of the house.

Joan is, and has been, so very much on my mind.  I'm praying for her.

June, I did read your message and I'm sorry I didn't respond.  I'm in the middle of this major storm and something came on the radio that distracted me.  I'm staying home and in.  I called off work.

I truly hope Shirley is wrong about the extent of your pain.  I wish you a rapid recovery.  Knowing Shirley, I bet she didn't stay quiet and read while she was recovering.  I hope you DO stay quiet and read.  Sorry Shirley but we all know you pretty well!

My daughter asked me what I would do if my power went out.  I told her I'd take the dogs and a few jars of Veggie soup and go across the street and share Steve and Cheri's fire in the fireplace.  She thought that was a pretty good plan!

Amy, well you are certainly showing your true colours aren't you? and from where I am sitting they certainly aren't nice....I am sure you can now feel pretty proud of yourself....I am just thankful to God that I have never stooped that low...

June, I'm sorry to hear about your fall and I hope the extreme pain goes away soon.  It's good there were no broken bones.

Shirley, I had a spot on my cheek under my eye that I thought was a keretosis gone wild.  I finally went to the dermatologist who said it was two kinds of skin cancer, so three days before Christmas I had it removed.  So this was a first checkup on the surgery and the next will be in September.  No chemo involved.  I don't know about all skin cancers, but often they are small and don't require chemo.  I had another one about 12 years ago over an eyebrow; the same doctor did the surgery.  Thanks for your good thoughts.

Things often don't go easy around here - I have a dentist appointment at 10 am and I reminded Tom of it yesterday.  He took his car in for inspection this morning, forgetting about my appointment.  The dentist's office is only across the street and a block up, but I can't walk that far.  Tom is now trying to figure what to do.  And I am about to get dressed.  I have about an hour for things to happen.

Our snow has let up, still doing a bit, but nothing major.

Mary Ann

Hi everyone.  Our rain started mid-afternoon yesterday and continued throughout the night but does appear to be over now.  During the night they broadcast a freeze warning for us but pretty sure we did not get to freezing at our home as was in the 40's when I arose this morning.  It will stay chilly today.  This will be a fairly busy day as Pat has a doctor's appointment at 10:15 this morning, then we plan on getting out main meal of the day out and finally finishing up at COSTCO for some shopping.  It is time to restock our meat supply in the freezer as well as getting several other things.  That will be enough activity for one day.  I may watch the beginning of the NCAA Basketball Tournament this afternoon.

Jenny, thanks for the update on Joan and sure hope the ventilator will soon have her back feeling much better.

deAngel, funny story about having your ears pierced meaning you wouldn't have to wear glasses.

JaneS, good news anytime we can save on any insurance policies.  Hope your neighbor will do the shoveling of the snow.  I wonder if your Walmart store is closed today?

June, so sorry that you had another fall and glad you didn't break a bone although it sounds like you are pretty beat up.

The sun just popped through the clouds and it will soon be time for us to leave for the morning.

Gloria

Good morning everyone, very light snow falling now but it will get worse in a little while. It is in the upper 20's this morning, not down in the teens like is has been the last few days.

SANDY  you are so right about the snow, God's fertilizer. It will not last as long as it would in the beginning of January.

LLOYD  OK I will not hit you again as long as you slow down and stay away from those heavy huge machines. There comes a time when we all have to start doing things much less hazardous.

LARRY  I have watched Little Big Shots a few times and some of those youngsters are amazing.

JENNY  thank you for the latest on Joan. I am glad Joe posts on FaceBook and Linda is with her. I pray the vent helps her and she will be back with us soon.

DON  hello.

HAL  this is one time I would prefer the cold temperature we had yesterday, snow would be light and fluffy then but with it in the 20's it will be a heavy wet snow and more of a chance of power lines coming down.

LLOYD  go back and read Jenny's post #220 from yesterday.

PATRICIA  I am glad I have full length curtains. When it is windy I can see them moving but the curtains do keep a lot of the cold from getting into the rooms. This is a beautiful building but the windows are cheap.

GLORIA de  from what I have seen on TV this morning you are getting a lot of snow now.  It has really started falling faster no9w than when I first looked out. The plow is here blearing the first row in the parking lot. Have to keep that open incast there is an emergency here. Maintenance is out clearing the walkway, too. Now you and my Mom both with coffee ice cream, she really loved it.

SHIRLEY  like you I would love to send a card to Joan.  Wish I could get out to get some cards. I will not ask my CNA to get some, her taste and mine clash. Hope you get that much needed sleep. Will send her address to you.

JANE  the plow left about 10 minutes ago and already the area he plowed is covered again, like he was not here.

AMY  when I house/pet sat when my oldest son and family went on vacation I used to go outside and enjoy looking at the sky at night.  Beautiful to see.

JANE  I have Joan's address and just sent it to Shirley.

JUNEE  we did have a mild winter but now we are getting what we missed earlier in the season. This is not the first time we had a big snowstorm around St. Patrick's day. Next week will be the first of spring.

JUNE  I am so sorry you fell again. Hope you will start feeling better soon. Prayers got up for you.

AMY  I have known Joan for at least 15 years and she has always been a caring helpful lady. I never saw her complain about anything.

PHYLLIS  I think we are all worried about Joan and praying for her.

Good Morning Everyone from the Snowy and Windy rocky coast of Maine...

The "Blizzared" is just beginning but most of us are ready for it.   I went shopping with Kelly yesterday and the Grocery Store was a MAD HOUSE.
And I was right in the middile of it.

Lucky for me,  kelly was right there to rescue me.
She didn't bother to shop,  just waited for me to
get in line and then helped me pack everything up so that  I could handle it.

I have  a rolling large back pack and a smaller back pack
that I can fill with anything heavy,  and of course some cloth bags just in case.   (for light weight things)..  This way I can manage from the car up to my apartment so that Kelly does not have to come up the elevator with me.

Having to only cook for one makes my grocery shopping a whole lot easier.    I am so very lucky to have someone to take me, once every week.

My heart goes out to Joan and I hope that she is feeling better today.

Sandy

JaneS

I just went out and shoveled part of the walk and the steps.  Then I shoveled a path out and a wide spot in the yard for the doggies.  Annie used it immediately.

I hope I don't have to shovel any more.  There is already a good 10 inches or more out there and it's going to continue until 11 p.m. tonight.  Gonna be a LOTTA snow out there.  There's more than one of us in the path of this storm!  I hope you all fare well.  Be safe!

Larry, WM is not closed.  When I called in the night crew was still there.  Unless a state of emergency is called, they won't close.  However, the night crew will probably make a bunch of extra money by working overtime hours.

All the schools are closed.  The announced it before the kids went home yesterday so no questions there.  Lots of businesses are closed.  When I went to the dentist yesterday, they had a sign up that they would not be in today.  I haven't been listening but I'm sure many places are closed.

Good Morning Everyone!

Well June, we are going to have to start hiding the bottle, again.  I think we are going to have to put you and Lloyd in the same group.  Dead-gum it you just get yourself back in shape and turn around and hurt yourself again.  I know you didn't do it on purpose but it is worrisome. I hope you get to feeling better soon.

To all the folks in the storm, I hope you laid in a good supply of hot chocolate and snacks.  Janie, good thinking staying home from work.  One day want hurt them, bet the boss actually appreciates the fact that some stay home, I am sure most customers will.

Amy, I was trying to remember, but it was about this time of the year back in 1959 I believe it was that we got a spring snow storm when I lived in Ottawa, big wet, juicy, snow flakes that added up in a hurry.  Got caught at work and stayed there working all night until the others could get to the office.  Like one summer there, it rained every weekend, I swear.  Beautiful Monday thru Friday and then cloud up and rain all Saturday and Sunday.  Those bank holidays came in handy that year.

Cool here this morning, heater is running, but suppose to get in the 70's later on and be a nice sunshiny day.

Amy, I forgot to mention, hope your two patients are doing well.  Knowing you I am sure you have things laid in for the bad weather.  House more than likely smells good with all the baking.

Shirley, eat something other than fast food, okay.  Use that egg gizmo,  I do and like the results.  I put a little picante in with the egg.......hmmmmm.....good.  And of course some cheese.

Jeanne Lee

Looks like this storm will make up for the ones that we only got the edge of.  So far about six inches and it's coming down fast and heavy.  It's expected to be heavy for about another five or six hours and then taper off over night - with maybe some light showers tomorrow morning.  Total accumulation may reach 24 inches (or more?).

I did my grocery shopping last Friday so I'm well supplied and - another good part of not having a car, I don't have to clean one off!

I'm thanking the Lord for a warm dry home and praying for comfort and protection for the homeless and street people.  Most of the large cities around here have opened special shelters for this kind of weather, designated as "Code Blue".

Okay, JaneS, you do know me.... the last broken rib (& konk on the head that took a stitch), I was picking up & paying for the new RV that day... got snookered completely on my trade in & didn't realize it for more than a week because I was off to Colorado for a week of camping with my 2 sons & new headache RV.  Every time I tried to lay down & get comfy with 3 cats (trying to set up their pecking order), I would breathe & a moan came out & hoped the boys couldn't hear me in their camper next to me.  I did not want them to know how bad I hurt and because of bleeding didn't want to take aspirin.  Really was a rough time, but I knew what caused the pain & for me, that is half the battle.  That is what I was trying to explain to June... don't know if she has cracked ribs before.  Feels like you are dying, but you don't, but you don't forget because every breathe reminds that you caused this pain!!!  Soon be 3 years since my last boo-boo.  Thanks for the offer of address.  I do have cards ready... more often send e-cards but this should be easier for Linda to deliver without printing... I hope.

Mary Ann, that big "C" terrifies me, no matter what.  Cas had quite a few places removed on his ears, face & neck... because of so many years outside without sun screen.  When he developed a huge lump near his elbow (size of a couple eggs) & came home from the dermatologist with diagnosis of melanoma, I didn't think he would be able to manage chemo.  Turned out it was not "Miligant melanoma" but just a trip to be removed and no chemo or radiation.  My brother-in-law had the MM kind on top of his head, after removal he took 9 months of chemo (supposed to have a year but so run down he had to quit).  That was nearly 30 years ago & he is still cancer free, a robust 87 years old, helping his gr-daughter & husband build a log house.  I'm glad you don't have to face chemo & that "C" isn't a death sentence anymore.

Jackie & Amy, most of the time when I am really concerned about something I do not talk about it... but can whine up a storm about little things.  With all of Joan's health issues she probably didn't want to admit how concerned she was and once in the doctor's hands, didn't get a chance to warn us.  All of us are worried about her and I know many times my words sound different, even to myself, when I go back and read my post.... so for Joan, let's all of us believe that nobody in here EVER means to insult of make anyone else feel bad.  We are here to lean on each other, offer advice (boy, I am good at that   ::)) and realize that we are here because we care.  Peace be with all of you.... love ya, Shirley (Norm used to say that).

Larry, you know I am not a sports watcher but Kansas has 3 teams going for the gold.  All of my kids & grands have graduated from Wichita State University so I don't mind if you root for them!  <grin>

I know the east is taking a beating with that storm, but do you have to be such pigs about keeping it all to yourselves?  We had a few flakes that I took the broom to on the driveway (it makes ice if you drive over it) and I would have welcomed a foot of snow to get my SnoNut out to slide down the hill behind my house.  Know that every Friend will be in my prayers... but I am still a little jealous~

Thanks, Gloria, I will check mail.  Had to giggle about you teasing Lloyd about the big machines... I got into trouble using a staple gun that I insulated a whole house with back in the '60s & continued to use up to a few years ago.  I wouldn't believe I wasn't strong enough to pull it with one hand so managed to get a staple in with hand over hand & thought I crushed all the bones in the hand next to the trigger.  Not a smart move.... especially since Cas bought me an electric one before he died!  There they were, side by side & I chose the old one.  Dumb-dumb-dumb!  We live & learn, huh?  Thanks for the address.

I gotta run to the store & this time race through slower & get all on the list.  Got a bad habit of putting my list back in pocket or purse & forgetting something I don't have to buy often (like black pepper).   (Hope nobody notices that I am not the most organized person in the room.)

JeanneLee, you are so thoughtful ... I did not think about the homeless & their hard life.  I hope all can find shelter.  Goodness, what a horrible thought that is!

Haha, Hal, only you would think of hiding the bottle....  (June, if I lived closer to him I'd give him a bar of soap in the mouth for you!)  I have been lazy the last week & boiled half a dozen eggs at a time & just crack & peel while the toaster does it's thing.  Now that I have to fix 4 cats breakfast there is hardly time to fix mine.  They each get a tablespoon of salmon for breakfast.... Callie still spends the night in the garage & the other 3 have the run of the family room-kitchen & basement.  Litter boxes in garage & basement, but I don't trust Callie to not mark her place when I'm not watching.  Old tiny LaurenKat still rules, hisses & they all back off.  Callie gave a German Shepherd a bloody nose the other day.... she sticks with me when I'm outside & the "mother" of the shepherd stopped to visit, dog wanted to sniff cat and cat allowed up to a point... then that little paw came out & got the nose.  The owner pulled the dog back or she could have picked her up with one bite.  Guess that's how this feral cat got old, she knows how to take care of herself.  Salsa on the egg sounds good, maybe I'll have breakfast for lunch.

Jane, we heard here that nearly everything is closed "back east".  Stay safe.

Sandy, glad you got your supplies in, bet you have an amazing scene from your windows.

Shirley

Okay, I won't talk again for a week..............  :-[

JaneS

Oh, darn it, Shirley, I'm gonna miss you if you don't come back for a week.

Your observation of us as a group is spot on.  That's exactly what I told Natalie in our Sunday interview for her psychology class about Senior living.  We are here to support one another and we know that whatever is said in writing may sound different to others.  We have to do what my grandmother used to call "take a grain of salt" with it.  I remember asking her what she meant by that and she said, "it means that you have to think about it and remember that all of us don't think alike and she probably means the same thing you do."

My grandfather was a bit more graphic when he was questioned.  Being of German descent, his answer was "Take a Dutchman as he means, not as he says."  My mother just said, "Think about it".

Reader's digest says that if your desk is messy (mine is) it may mean you're smart.

We have upwards of a foot of snow now and it's still coming down steadily!

Hey Janie, damn, I'm a genius............ :D  or just  :crazy2:

Mary Ann

Our morning episode turned out quite well, considering.  Tom got Dot to take me to the dentist office (a block away) as she was heading for Lenten services at church.  In the meantime, Tom would have a Uber driver pick me up to bring me home (I can't walk that far, even though it is downhill).  When finished, I called Tom who had found out his car was ready (Uber inspection) so had the Uber driver pick him up first, then pick me up, then go where his car was.  We decided because Tom's brother is in California, he and I would have our Wednesday lunch today instead of tomorrow.  I think there will be no more changes in plans.

The first of the twins went home yesterday.  I don't think James and Alicia really realize that their lives are going to be different - forever.

Mary Ann

Sandy

Sandy, glad you got your supplies in, bet you have an amazing scene from your windows. (from Shirley)

I do enjoy the scenes from my Windows to the World...  Right now the roads in down town Portland Maine are looking pretty bad,  so there is not much traffic.   The buses are still running,  so there are some  people out there stuggling with the weather.      It is going to be a while until it starts to slow down ..  We have a Blizzard Warning until 5 PM  (Another 5 hours..)   The the snow patrol will come up and clean off the sidewalks and streets.

It is always best when the snow melts fast..
Here's hoping.

Good Afternoon.

First of all,  thinking about Joan and was hoping to hear some good news by now.

And, June,  so sorry to hear about your bad fall.  I am sure you are hurting pretty bad today. Falls like that and the pain that they cause usually have to get worse before they get better...  Sure hope you won't be laid up too long.  Take care of yourself, which I do know you try to do.

Shirley, you said exactly like I am sure most of us feel.

We had snow all night and still snowing off and on.  My area was supposed to get 12 to 15 inches, but I think the sleet that fell earlier helped to cut down the accumulation of the snow.  Most everything was closed today.  Every once in a while, it looks like the sun is coming out,  The weatherman said that even if it doesn't come fully out, the warmth from it behind the clouds does help to melt whatever falls. A lot of the roads are completely clear.  Still a lot of work to do.  I am hoping that my daughter-in-law didn't have too much of a problem getting to work. She works at a hospital and leaves around 5 a.m.   She is one of the ones that usually tries to go in.

JaneS,  I am sure your daughter is getting a lot of snow,  as I heard it is pretty bad up her way.

I still haven't gotten caught up on my sleep from the change to daylight savings time.  Just can't seem to stay awake.  And, it is turning out to be a good nap day.

Right now the sun is out brightly and it is snowing up a storm.

Hope everyone in the storm path are staying in and keeping warm.

Sandy, it must be so nice to be able to see activity out their window, except for it being a little slow today.  When I look out my window, all I see are huge pine trees and a parking lot out the front window.  And, those trees are really blowing.

Thoughts and prayers are still going out to Joan.  Get well, soon, Joan.

I'm here to thank you for your good thoughts and prayers, I hope. Like Lloyd, I think some of us need to be kept on a leash. Because of a dose of percoset I had a good nights sleep in the recliner. I did  call for help in getting to the bathroom though..just felt I needed the assurance of a helping hand.

Lunch has arrived so off I go........
As long as we are here, let's dance.

I have been thinking way back to when I first joined here six plus years ago...and the first time I came into Soda Shoppe to make my first posting....and all the members who were once here....who remembers sweet Mary Jane Peaches for one? oh what happy days...it was all so different then...so many people no longer here, either passed away or left...some of my best days was back then...

Shirley

Right beside me under "Random Image" is a photo of Norm & Dot.  You got me with remembering who all was around that many years ago, Jackie.  What fun we had, but we do have lots of "new" people in here & in other discussions, that we don't know very well.  I wondered if anyone heard from Mahlia (Persian), I do hear from or call Doris A now & then.  She is doing well.  I remember Peaches.... such a happy person.  Gladys was such fun. One other thing, we were all so much younger & in better health, right?

AND I said I wouldn't come in for a week~

Good evening, very windy and a freezing rain. Very bad driving and walking. I cannot believe in the last two weeks I keep losing very long post.  A while ago I wrote to nearly everyone, finished went back to correct someones name, and away when my post.

Now, I will only say as everyone else is saying and praying for and hoping to hear good news about Joan.

June, I am so sorry to hear about your fall, sure hope you are up and around soon. I join with this group in praying for you, also with a big
hug

Amy, prays also to you, and hope both of your patients are doing well

Gloria, we got all kinds of weather to day. snow turning into freezing rain, warm air off of the ocean causing us to get heavy rain, now back to freezing, with very high winds.

Larry, that is cool for SC. Got a lovely call from Johanna in SC, she was checking up on me, and to see how I was making out in the storm

Shirley, I also have wondered what had happen to Mahlia and her husband Egypt
