Good morning everyone..

I thought I had heard someone shoveling our driveway (neighbour) he is like that so got up to help. Dressed in working clothes out I went and no one there..am I losing it :idiot2: Oh well I did see that there is a very hard crust of ice on the snow and think it may be wise to leave the snow right where it is till is stops raining.

Von is the only thing planned for today.

June, your posts are never boring , love reading them.

Jenny, I too can remember the Cub Car Rallies. I was in Scouting but with the 5 - 7 year olds called Beavers.

Gloria de I also enjoy Amazing Grace...especially when sung by El Divo.

Gloria, I didn't want to get up this early but oh well, fire is going.put tea on and now enjoying a cup. Coffee in the hidey hole along with lemon donuts for everyone.

Jane. one of my jobs today is to make mustard...we aren't out but getting close and I don't want to be without! Had some mixed with honey and mayo to dip our chicken fingers in last night.

Larry, hope Pat is feeling much better today..

Enjoy your day everyone..

Good morning Everyfriend!  I got up to a rainy day and as soon as I checked my messages, the rain moved inside.  Thank you for all your prayers for Randall!  Last night his pain and feeling of helplessness left him and and he went home to his God.  He was 86 and and he was one of the last of the all time GOOD GUYS.  I don't know anyone who didn't like him in spite of his gruff exterior.

Enjoy your day and say "Thank you" to God for his care of Randall!

Jane my sympathy to you and the family of Randall.  He is in a better place now, and all those that love him have wonderful memories tucked in their hearts.

Jane, I'm sorry.  Randall is at rest and without pain but it still hurts when they leave us behind.  Prayers for you and for Randall's family.

Peter, how nice to see you back after all this time.  And to hear that a pace maker is helping you to feel better.  I hope we hear from you often.

Amy,  I sat here and cried listening to Amazing Grace.  My Tom and I loved that hymn and especially when the bagpipes played it.  I requested that it be played at Tom's memorial service.

Mary Ann, many people, including our family, prefer to not have an obituary placed in the papers and we had a small private memorial service for Tom with just family and a few close friends and neighbors.  Far away family and friends (those that were still alive) were told of his death by phone or mail.  Perhaps Hal's family has chosen that way, as well.

Oh Lloyd, I had not heard that,  I hope our Angelface is OK.

Gloria

Good morning everyone, 2 nights I have had trouble getting to sleep. Wish I knew why this has been happening so often lately. Maybe just not enough exercise anymore. Of course it is not this rain and dampness making my back feel worse. Enough complaining.

MARY ANN  weather people here are saying we might have thunderstorms with today's rain. It is still a bit foggy here but not as bad as yesterday.

LARRY  from the time my son started his orchard the price of the chemicals needed have mmore than tripeld in cost, and now that he is retired he cannot afford to throw all that money away and get nothing in return.

AMY  I would rather have snow than freezing rain, too.

GLORIA de  my favorite hugs are from children, right now from my little great grandson.

CAROL  when I first started cooking for just me I tried cooking something that would freeze good. Sure helped when I would get home tired from work.

SHIRLEY  I did recently send Doris my phone number but wondered if I had the right email address. Could you email it to me please? I know too wel haw walking can keep one inside. Sure the rollator is wonderful but not good on rough ground.

JUNE  your large print was easy to read.

AMY  lemon donuts? Hope there is still one ther  for me. My favorite.

LLOYD  have not heard the news yet, Hope the quake was not in Fairbanks.

Hi Everyone. We have had a little rain during the night and it is overcast today, at least so far.  It is currently 65 but the temperatures are to go down during the day to the low 60's this afternoon.  I decided to go to the Prompt Care yesterday afternoon and really got a good report as my lungs were clear so the PA doesn't feel I have bronchitis and perhaps it is just sinus causing the cough. She gave me a prescription for TamaFlu if I get any flu symptoms and prescribed something for the cough. I am pretty sure I don't have the flu so won't fill that prescription now.  I do think the cough is better this morning.  Last night was one of those nights when I just couldn't go to sleep until probably 2 am. I plan to stay in today and mainly take things slow.

Amy, it sounded like yesterday was a good day to stay inside and sew.

Bubble, thanks for taking on the posting of pictures for folks.

deAngel, the Hymn "In the Garden" was my mother's favorite and she had it sung at her funeral.  I can't image anyone not loving "Amazing Grace" and there are so many beautiful recordings of it available to us these days. I don't know how anyone can sing with tears rolling down his face.

Carol, we intentionally make more than "twosome meals" so don't have to cook as often.

Callie, as I remember living in your area it seemed that the wind was always "blowin' down the Plain".  I heard from my sister in Northern Iowa yesterday that they were in the middle of a blizzard.  I do feel that Pat is feeling better as got a lot of sleep yesterday and again last night.  What a cleaver idea for a Pinewood Derby car.

Shirley, I had one of the lightweight hoses that retracted itself and it sprung a leak.  I had the label and contacted the company and they ultimately sent me a new hose but I had to take pictures of having cut off one of the ends of hose and a picture of the hose leaking.  Last year I bought a heavier hose but it was so difficult to use that when I brought it in for the winter I just threw it into the trash and was too heavy for me to handle anymore.  I will get another one of the retractable lightweight one this Spring so will have one of the retractable hoses for both of the outside faucets.  They don't get much use as had no outdoor plants last year and never will again.  Artificial flowers or plants don't require much water.  :)  I think you are referring to the 45 RPM small records from years ago.  They had the large hole for the spindle.

June, I have always heard that wheat bread was much better for us than white bread.  How often have we been told over the years that something was bad for us only to later be told that isn't so.  I decided a long time ago I was an adult and would make my own decisions about what I ate.  I do try to stay away from most friend foods.  You never bore us.

Jenny, I remember my son being in Scouts for a year or two and think he also entered the Pinewood Derby.  Unfortunately his father wasn't much help with his car.  The troop he belonged to camped every month regardless of the weather and one January they camped when it was probably 20 below.  Scott remembers that camping experience very well.  As you  saw above Bubble has offered to take over the posting of pictures for us.  She is a very talented lady and I appreciate her help and will refer pictures to her.

Jane, I send my condolences to you and Randall's family.

Bubble, Fairbanks is a very long way from where the earthquake hit, which was 175 miles South of Kodiak, Alaska.  I just now saw that while some Tsunami warning still exist for some of the coast of Alaska they have been cancelled for Washington, Oregon and California. I hope Patricia is OK as she didn't seem to post yesterday, at least after I posted yesterday morning.

Fog has finally lifted, it was so thick I couldn't see the road! VON girl said roads were also slippery. Have a big pot of beef barley soup on so that should hit the spot for lunch. Better stop procrastinating and get my mustard made too.

Sandy, I have never had to have a colonoscopy done.........yet. It does not sound like a pleasant test, but much in our lives that is unpleasant, but essential. I'm glad you are doing O.K.

Larry, I grew up with the wheat bread being the best also. I'm sorry I posted that article, or part of it. When I finally quit reading it, I found it was really an add for taking some kind of medication. That really disgusts me.

I found the large print very easy to read also, but if we all switched to that size it may be a problem, so I'll try not to have it happen again.

I have a program coming up downstairs. It is called Friends helping Friends, so I had better get my bed made, my body dressed and be on my way. I had blood drawn at 5 a.m. so a long nap will be needed later today. I could have gone back to sleep, but knew my nurse would be here at 6 o'clock for the usual…patch, pill, and albuterol treatment. So off I go. See you all later my beloved friends. June.

Good afternoon pouring rain, windy and so dark I have the lights on. Quite warm

Amy, thanks for the video. beautiful.

Jane, prays for you and your family.

Gloria, I am also having trouble sleeping, I go to bed read for a while about 12 I  go to sleep, but wide awake about 3. go back to sleep about 5,  Oh! I sure miss those lemmon donuts, Joan use to put out for us  :)

Larry, I like those hoses, but the last two I bought leaked the other hoses are to heavy.

Jenny, my two sons won their local soap box derbys. and went to Akron, Oh.  for the National. Quite and experience. They met all the stars from Bonanza and another year from Bewitched.  WE had a large barn, and some of the boys and fathers guided there sons building their racers.  One boy who's mother just had died bulited his racer there with the other fathers helping.

Sandy, June, when I went for my 30 day check up after heart surgery the nurse asked when I had my last colonoscopy done & I told her that "I have never had that pleasure so since Medicare says they aren't necessary after 75, I won't ever".   She looked at me like I was missing a few marbles & didn't say a thing.  Because Cas had colon cancer in his family, & they usually found polyps to clip out, he got them every year for a while & after Medicare, every 5 years.  Whatever they gave him the last time made him happy as a baby & just as goofy.  I begged to bring some home to give him.   :2funny:

Larry, my new hose came in today, has a 2 year warranty but doubt if it would cover unless they don't want a bad review.  I have 2 or 3 of those heavy rubber "Sears lifetime" hoses at each faucet (stored for the winter) but they are too heavy to drag around.  I did get a recall on the fire extinguisher in the RV yesterday.  So many numbers & places to check so I took the camera out & got a good shot of the details & of the whole unit & pulled the photos up & called today.  Sure is on recall & they will send a new one.  Been doing catch up on details... tomorrow will drive the RV over to get the propane refilled so it's ready if I need to go.  With my sister being 88 & brother 93, both of their spouses about the same ages, so I keep the elephant on alert.

Must take care of cats.... it's mild but still winter & they will be wanting in.

June Drabek

Tisie, at 93years of age, I am not even thinking polyps, or anything else that requires hospitalization or surgery...Gary has it all figured out for me...if I am ever in severe pain he is calling in Hospice where they can legally give enough of something to keep me comfortable to die in peace. I also have the DNR posted by my door, and the clinic downstairs has a copy. I want no surgeries, just want to be let go to find out whats on the other side. To see what Dr. God has in mind for me.[/color]

Good morning everyone...

Another day dawns.....well it soon will make an appearance. I did peek out and no new snow to deal with. Last evening I saw the plow go by pushing the banks back with heavy wet snow. I knew it would be hard to move once froze so I shoveled all out of the driveway.
Today is chiropractor this morning and then let the day happen. On second thought I had better get the mustard made...see I am good at procrastinating. Maybe I can clip the nails on the neighbours dog today also.

Phyllis ,that is also my favourite song and I love the pipes!! Where I was raised, a few streets over a man would play the pipes and the sound was beautiful.

Larry, I did manage to get some sewing done..another song I like is Victory In Jesus and His Eye Is On The Sparrow.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vcIoFdSC-jA

I had better get a move on.

Enjoy your day everyone..

Good Morning!  We're up and attem and the temp has gone back down.  Somehow, the contrast has changed on my monitor and I'm having trouble seeing what I'm typing.  If I make any glaring errors, pleas forgive me!

The rain has stopped and I'm thankful for that because the temps are back to below freezing.  That would have been a terrible mess.

I'll be working this morning so wish me smiles and short lanes! I wish you all a happy day!

Good morning everyone, finally got here. Some mornings I am really slow getting moving, this is one of them. At last the rain has stopped and the sun is shining. Two days of rain and dampness really got to me.

JUNE  I do not care what is said about wheat bread I do not like it taste. I will stick to white bread but these days with so much preservatives in bread  I eat very little of it. A loaf can sit there for a month and still not get moldy like it used to or get stale either.

GLORIA de  looks like DD has stopped making the lemon ones, no call for them anymore.  Been a few years since they were made around here and those were always my favorites.

SHIRLEY I had a colonoscopy twice and refused to do it again. My SIL has it done every year because he has family members who died of colon cancer. Not something he looks forward to. Most years they remove polyps.

LLOYD  I am with you with sweet teeth. Always ready for something sweet.

AMY  the sun I woke to has gone back to sleep under a thick cloud cover.

Have a good day.

Hi Everyone. It is another beautiful sunny morning here in South Carolina and I am feeling much better today than I did yesterday.  I guess this was just a cold that resulted mainly in a lot of sinus drainage and a cough, although not coughing up anything.

This is Wednesday night dinner at Church and I hope to be able to join Jennifer and her visitor there for dinner. Scott is working again this evening so won't be there or be able to come out to the house.  I will make a final decision on going later this afternoon.  Nothing else on the schedule for today.  I stayed in bed late this morning and by the time I got up Pat had fixed her own breakfast and is now snoozing away in her easy chair.  She is also feeling much better except for the cough, which apparently is going to linger.

Sandy, I am just thankful we didn't get the flu here.  The coughing really wears a person down but at least didn't have the other problems that go along with the flu.

June, the last couple of colonoscopies I have had were not bad as they completely put me out.  The preparation the day before is the most unpleasant but nothing compared to suffering one with have with undetected colon cancer.  I know what you mean about reading something that sounds interesting and they just go on and on and of course they always have something to sell us. One of my coffee drinking friends here married within this last year and now his new wife has been put on Hospice as the cancer treatments are not working.  It sounds like you have your affairs in order and lets hope you never need Hospice care but based on our experience with it when Stacey was under their care it is a wonderful organization and service to folks.

Lloyd, you are not the only one with sweet teeth.  :)  Fortunately I do not have diabetes.

Amy, it sounds like you have enough to keep you pretty busy today.  Your mention of "His Eye is on the Sparrow" brought to mind Ethel Waters as that was sort of her signature song.

Jane, don't forget you can hold down the control key and scroll up or down to increase the size of the print.  The bigger it gets the brighter it is.

deAngel, that was quite an honor your sons had to get to go to Akron for the National Pinewood Derby competition.

Shirley, just hold on to the information on the hose and the receipt of where you bought it.  I was able to get a replacement of the one that failed on me as I described yesterday (I think).  They are perfect for older folks as they are very lightweight and you don't have to deal with them getting all dangled up.  It is good you keep your RV ready to hit the road.

Gloria, glad to see you are getting some sunshine today.  It sure brightens our outlook over a overcast day.

June Drabek

Gloria de, You may want to ask your doctor about having a DNR. He can explain it all to you. If you want your wishes known and you are to ill to say what you want done, the DNR will say it for you. Or a good lawyer can help too.

Janie dear….just having a tomorrow is a gift. Keep safe with that weather you are having today. I know you will receive smiles because you give the first. The short lanes I pray are yours !

Gloria, I have never been fond of wheat bread, and I can't have rye as most of it is seeded. My favorite is Sour dough. It has a good flavor and  texture..for me.

Larry, I am a stubborn old gal, and I like to have things done legally on paper, so if I cannot speak for myself due to a stroke or what…..it is there in black and white. And everything I have done, my children agree with. If a person has no children, or close relative, or very good friend, they should have a reliable lawyer.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

Hello my friends, I came home from work so tired I couldn't think straight.  I made some lunch, gave the doggies a snack, read my email and took a nap.  I'm awake now and I feel better but I was really exhausted.  I drew 2 busy, long registers today and I thought the day would never end!

I hope you are all having a good day and enjoying life.  I'm going to spend the rest of the day, doing absolutely nothing.  Tomorrow, I have to get ready for house guests.  Randall's funeral is on Saturday and that's going to be a difficult day.  My daughter and her husband and my granddaughter will arrive from Texas on Friday night  and leave on Sunday.  Even when you are expecting it, it's hard to let a loved one go.

Time to get on with my "nothing" for the evening!

Hi Everyone.  I am going to beg off of making individual comments today as have had a setback with the cough and congestion.  Yesterday evening early I thought things were under control, but by the time I got home from dinner at the Church I started coughing.  I was feeling terrible and went to bed about 8 pm and was able to stay there in basically a sitting up position until around 3:30 when I started hacking again.  So I came out to my easy chair.  Today will just be one of rest even if it is sitting up.

From Roley'
To all who sent me 'get well' messages,  I thank you all sincerely, you are all unknown to me as i have only ever spoken in here once before, then Lloyd asked me if he could speak to me on 'skype' ,since then we speak regularly to each other and i just look in here just to see the latest from over the pond !.
For a moment can i tell you something of myself,  i am 86, born 1931, caught polio 1933, many years in and out of hospital, worked until i took early retirement and  pension at  age of 58, was hit  again by 'Post Polio' and have been completely house bound for the past two years, then on Dec 20 last year, i was found on the floor by my wife and G/son, it was a 'as we say,'  a red light job (Ambulance ignores all red traffic lights), my wife and G/son waited several hours while they brought things back to normal again, now after 6 weeks in hospital, i am back home again, memory and speech bad at the moment but slowly getting better, so this is where i am at the present time, looking into 'SENIORS AND FRIENDS' reading all your get well messages from unknown 'FRIENDS' and all i can say to you all is THANK YOU. and in return  I HOPE YOU ALL HAVE A HAPPY NEW YEAR,  THANK YOU ALL AND GOD BLESS ALL.
