Hi everyone on this Friday Morning.  I am looking forward to a quiet and restful day at home today as have been on the go all week and by yesterday evening was totally exhausted.  I went to bed early and slept for over 9 hours.  I didn't get home yesterday until 2 pm and had to leave again at 3:45 for Pat's chiropractic appointment.  Fortunately, I had prepared salad for us earlier and so had a quick meal with ham and salad.  I did fix her a good scrambled eggs, green onions, cheese and ham breakfast with a bowl of strawberries for breakfast.

Jackie, I am coping well other than having no stamina and having to stop for frequent rest periods.  After resting a little while I can get back up and continue the job.  Please don't worry about me as I am among the fortunate not to be in pain all the time.  When I reach a certain point of tiredness I know I have to stop and rest.  Nice to see you are still able to get outside occasionally and enjoy your surrounding.

Joan, thank you for your prayers for Pat (and also thanks to others here who have included her in your prayers and kind thoughts).  I think it may be a long haul before she gets back to where the muscle spasms stop.  I know she is getting very bored at basically being confined to the house and misses being with friends.  Proficient at meals is another story but I am working on it.  I need to fix her some sauteed mushrooms that I purchase yesterday at Aldi's.  She recently fixed some and loved him.  She gets all of them as mushrooms are not on my favorite list.  I'm with you in not caring for honey.

June, glad to see your computer was "feeling spritely" yesterday. I was a bit concerned when I saw that you left your brain in bed when you got up.  :)  That made me chuckle.

Don, beautiful picture of you two.  That sounded like a very nice engagement party.

Jackie, I heard on the news last night that the little Allepo boy had been reunited with his entire family.  Perhaps the picture helped them get the family back together.

Callie, I also liked the Cinnabon's but wouldn't be able to enjoy one if I had to buy them in a mall as can't do the walking in the mall anymore.

Gloria, I just opened the link for the medicines that won't be covered by a couple of the insurance plans in 2017 but did not see the TV story on the increase in cost of the EpiPen.  Fortunately, neither Pat nor I have ever needed one.

Mary Ann

Amy, some time ago you shared the recipe for Cabbage Roll Casserole.  I made it and we both liked it.  A friend of Tom's has been doing some cooking for us in hopes Tom will be able to lose some weight and I gave her a copy of the recipe so she could make it for us again.  When we were at her house last e night, the first thing she told me was that the casserole was delicious!

Joan, in your one-liners, the one about the child telling the mother's age â€" one day I asked my mother if she was 30 and she said “yes”.  Each years I'd add a year until I got to maybe 35 and my mother said she was 40.  I remember it yet â€" the ironing board was beside the table and Mother was sewing and I stood at the end of the ironing board crying, “you lied to me”.  I realize my mother knew what she was doing!

I had another episode of nose bleeds this morning and I have a different type of packing in my nose.  As I have aged, the membranes in my nose have thinned and dried.  I hope I don't have this going on for the rest of my life!  I can't blow my nose until the packing comes out Monday.

Mary Ann

JoanFL

Good morning, Larry.  You sure were busy yesterday.  It sounds to me as if you're doing very well with your cooking.  I LOVE mushrooms.  I know Pat must be experiencing some cabin fever.

Mary Ann--Good morning.  Sorry you've had another nosebleed.  Did you have to go to the ER to get your nose packed?  I laughed about your asking your Mother's age.

Good morning from a yet again, rainy day in  the Interior. Farrah has come so far that now she not only taps me for attention but she "yells" at me if I am slow in noticing! Either that or she's figured out who's the boss!  ;)

What made me so angry about the medicine is the significant increases and costs for needed medications, such as the EpiPen increasing over 480% in such a small time. Meds for chronic diseases are real money makers for our pharmacy companies, and profit is their bible and goal!

I am lucky in that I only need a few adjustments so far and a need to see if it is a worsening of my disability or something new that has come up. This is why I'm so happy about Medicare, so far anyway!

JoanFL

Gloria just called and wanted me to tell you all that her computer crashed again. They refuse to come to her place to work on it--want her to crawl around on the floor and unplug things--which she is unable to do.

Joan.....what a nice company Gloria is dealing with...not....  >:(.....how nice of them to want their seniors customers to grovel around on the floor, while they are sitting comfortably at their desks in a comfortable office giving out their comands.....not.. >:(
I hope Gloria puts in some words of complaint once she is back up running again....I think Gloria has been more than patient with this company...

JoanFL

angelface--One of my inhalers is not going to be covered at all and the other is going from $42 to $336.  Atrocious!

Vanilla-Jackie--Like you,  I would have lost my patience long ago.  Gloria has had this computer 6 months and has had nothing but trouble with it.

Click for Melbourne, Florida Forecast

angelface555

I think I know what is wrong with Gloria's computer. In 2001, I had very similar issues with Gateway. They sent me a few new computers and then insisted my warranty was void and that I was somehow damaging the computers myself as they would work for awhile and then shut down.

I finally took it to a repair shop in town. After a three month wait and then $85.00 an hour, they told me that when Gateway sent out a new computer, they put it together exactly as the original. The issue was the original assembly had several errors that were consequently duplicated.

After the local company, who was very busy, thus the long wait, fixed the computer, it worked fine for eight years. I notified Gateway of their error and oddly enough, I never received an answer or acknowledgement....

JoanFL

angelface--In the six months since Gloria bought this computer they have never sent her a new one or taken this one in repairs.  The only thing they did was send her a disc.

If I were Gloria, I'd sue that computer company. They are treating her very, very badly.

Larry, again, my brain is still in bed sound asleep. It allows me to rouse it to do some communicating , but nothing of interest seems to be available. You are so valiant in your loving care of your wife Larry. I'm really proud of you. Please keep realizing your limitations and rest as much as possible. If you should get seriously ill, what would happen next. You should have access to some sort of assistance my friend.

Time to hit the recliner and book. See you all later. June

Good Afternoon Everyone!

Well, finally got a little time so thought I would check on you cats to see what was going on.  I had PT early this morning 8AM, got home about 9 and was give completely out, had a cup of coffee, took some of my meds and lay down and had a little nap.  Then got up, had some more coffee and my daughter and hubby came by to pick up their dog and other things and headed back to Del Rio, She was feeling pretty good considering.  Just hope you doesn't wear herself out going home.

Well doctors office called while Christy was here and gave me the results of my MRI, not cancer.  But they say they are referring me to "another" specialist and I should expect a phone call from them in a couple of days after they evaluate the problem.  That's what I need another doctor.

Oh, the joys of old age.  Just kidding, the good Lord has been exceptionally good to me considering how I have treated him.  I will accept in good humor what ever he offers.

JeanneP

Jenny. Now what tickets are you talking about. I may be over end of September into October to see family.  Don't remember reading about them here.

Halkel.....you done well to have gotten your MRI results so soon after having it done...They made me wait five weeks for mine, to tell me I had MS....what a difference the medical system from country to country....
Halkel, I am happy and relieved to hear your good news, re, not cancer, those words bring music to our ears....

JaneS

If any of you are friends with me on facebook, be aware.  My account has been hacked.  I'm closing it down and I will not open it again.  I didn't like it in the first place but I wanted to see the pictures of Natalie in Italy during her junior year in college.  Now I don't really care.  It seems to be more trouble than it's worth.  I must really be getting old!

JoanFL

June--They sure are giving Gloria the run around.

halkel--Glad the MRI showed no cancer.  Now what kind of a specialist do you have to see?

Hi Vanilla-Jackie.

Janie--I got one of those friend requests from you today.

Click for Melbourne, Florida Forecast

angelface555

Jane, I received one as well. I earlier saw a note from another friend, telling you it was hacked. That is why I originally shut my account down as they, (Facebook); seem unable or unwilling to shut this scam down. I reopened it because of family.

halkel

Joanie, if my life depended on it I couldn't tell you.  Like I said my daughter was here gathering her stuff and I tried to explain it to her.  But the nurse told me so much about two different problems that all I did was jumble the facts.  So, I have sent an email to the doctors office and ask if she would be so kind as to put in writing what she told me on the phone.  My doctor is out of the office today and Monday so I cant talk to him.  But they are very nice folks and normally they will grant me favors.

Jackie, unfortunately we have many here in the U.S. who want your type of system, I don't.  They think it is all free with no strings.  As you know it isn't.  NHS does have some good things that I like but the bad seemed to outweigh the good.  My brother in law was well taken care of with the heart valve replacement, of course he never saw the surgeon except when he did the operation and they messed him around some with a second operation for a different problem.  The radiologist was present when they did the MRI last night and I didn't have to have the contrast I was suppose to have gotten.  That is how I found out he was present.  I never saw him, but the technician  told me when she pulled me out of the machine that he said no contrast needed.

phyllis

Angel, in regard to the article on the Epipen....., thank goodness I don't need to carry one but I learned first hand last week about the sudden astronomical increase in allergy medicine.  My dr. renewed my script for a very commonly used medicine, Albuterol inhaler for asthma and when I went to pick it up the druggist told me it was $90 for one inhaler and my prescription plan no longer covers it!  I was shocked but told them I really needed it so go ahead and fill it for me.  While I was waiting the wonderful druggist did a little digging and found another brand (same medicine) for $50.  Still way higher than it used to be but better than the original price.

I'm sorry, Joan, that they hit you so hard for something you HAVE to have just to get through the days.

I don't know how these pharmaceutical companies live with themselves......or the insurance companies either!  :tickedoff:

Gosh, I feel so sorry for Gloria.  That has to be frustrating her beyond words.

Hal, I'm happy that the diagnosis was "no cancer".  What a relief for you and your family.

Halkel......wish they realise it is not free, we pay- payed into it during our working lives when we were - are stopped weekly - monthly tax from our wage packet ....

June Drabek

Hal, thank's so much for sharing the Good News from your doctors office. I'm sorry the feel the need for another specialist to see you, but better safe than sorry. Do you get your medical treatment from the V.A. or do you have another program ? Never doubt that the Good Lord loves you Hal, you are a good man, through and through.

Janie, I had intended to join Facebook some years back, but my son Dan warned me against it. Felt it was too much for me. I'm glad I obeyed him, as it seems to be very popular.

I went down for lunch, sat with a fun, like-minded group. There were five of us at the table. One couple, former Missionaries to Guatemala,
one lady from Long Beach, Ca., another little Asian lady and me. I brought over half my huge lunch home to have for supper tonight.

Had a phone call from son Gary. He has made an appointment for me with his optometrist for next week, so I will probably get some new reading glasses. We will leave after his hour of his teaching group Bible studies at our Chapel downstairs.

Now it is time to lay this body down with a good book and a nice nap. See y'all later. June

halkel--Hope you find out what kind of specialist you must see now.

Phyllis--So far there is no cheaper inhalers for me.  I have yet to check all the other prescriptions to see how many have been dropped or the price raised out of sight.  I don't have much good to say about the pharma companies and the insurance companies.

Vanilla-Jackie--Your insurance works different than ours.

June--Glad you had a nice lunch with friends.  I am overdue to get my eyes examined--must make an appointment.

Didn't fall asleep, read a bit, then took a nice walk outside. They are setting up a stage and chairs for a "concert" in our Courtyard. I thought it was for Sunday, but they may have switched to tomorrow, or perhaps they like to get things done ahead of time. I'll know tomorrow. It is so nice outside, but my conditioner goes on anyway. Perhaps it gets warmer inside because we are the top floor. In any case, I am comfortable so not complaining.

Bis I haven't seen an eye doctor for a long, long time. Must be close to five years or more. Since I had the two cataracts removed.

[/7]years......just checked my records.

Vanilla. The difference in the Health is that here in US. It cost, Even once retired.  we pay $1400 a year, Taken out of our SS pension check part each month.  plus aprox $450 a month  for a supplemental as Medicare only coveres 80%  of cost.  and then extra for some drugs. Not like UK. We pay a amount monthly all the years we are working (40) years me. in order to get on Medicare once retired.

Although I know my relatives there In UK.  They are retired and on the Country  Health Program but they also carry a private policy which they pay for and get fast service on most things. Just both having knees replaced at this time. Never seem to have to wait long for anything.  Same with friends there. The have a private and wait no longer than 48 hours it seems. Nothing free in this world.....
JeanneP

JaneS

JeanneP, is that $450. a month for what I call Medigap?  Whatever isn't covered by Medicare?  Is that $450. just for you?  I don't pay nearly that much for my supplemental and I thought I was paying too much.  If you think it's none of my business, you don't have to answer but the amount shocked me!

I've been trying to restore some semblance of order to my office.  I don't seem to have a space free to set something down.  And when school starts and Kiran wants to use the computer, I'll be in trouble.  She just pushes things out of the way.  I've got the shelves organized.  Now for the desk!

Click for Lewisburg,Pennsylvania Forecast

Shirley

JeanneP, I'm not exactly sure what I'm paying but SS Medicare sounds about right that comes out of my checking..... but I think I pay less than $200 per month for my supplemental...  and my bypasses & new valve did not cost me an extra penny.  I don't want to change anything... but I don't carry insurance for medicine, dental, anything extra.  If Medicare covers, my supplemental takes care of the rest.... so far.  I took an antibiotic twice this year & was surprised it was less than half what I paid a couple years ago and the 2nd round recently, was about half what it was just weeks earlier.  I won't mention the name but my insurance has a color in it's name.     I've checked with friends & neighbors & seems everyone uses the same company & policy.

Hal, glad to hear you don't have cancer & totally understand not catching all that came through the phone~  I ask for copies of tests, don't understand how to read them but can compare with same tests years before.  One time a new nurse called with the report of the bone density.... all excited because it showed osteoporosis.  I explained it was just a tiny bit better than about 20 years ago & I had not taken any meds, only vitamins.  Medicare will allow me to have the bone test every 2 years but if I took any of the meds for osteo.... then they could run the test every year!  I thought that was so outrageous I even asked the doctor if that wasn't bias in favor of the pharmaceuticals...  still think it is wrong, wrong, wrong.. just the idea Medicare would pay every year if I took pills but NOT if I fix my own bones with vitamins!  I don't want or need the extra tests, just the idea of catering to the pharmaceuticals.
   :idiot2:

We have a little cool down, some storms passing through... I planned to walk in the rain but didn't have time, each storm was here before I expected, even watching radar!  I did get caught going to the store, got soaked but didn't have time to stroll....   A day in the 80s for tomorrow so will be a real treat.

Got to have the RV across town by 8:30 am.... to have the metal valve stems put on and a recall taken care of.  So glad they discovered that recall & can fix it while I'm already there, Ford guy said it was emissions thingy.  Trying to think of something I can bake & take for the guys..... drawing a blank.  Maybe pick up a box of donuts.......

Good night, all..  God Bless & keep you healthy & happy.

No. I don't pay that for supplement. Just that I know many who do Pay that. It is a few years now and I remember my MIL paid $315 a month to Blue Cross and Blue Shield. She was up in 70s to 89  My daughter her Supplement  with them now is $297 and she just got on Medicare.  I don't have any as I have a Annuity which i took out on Retirement and getting on Medicare. Just to be used for health.  Figured best way to go for me.  And I have been very lucky not many problems health wise. I also find in looking at the charges friends get that have a supplement. Being on a Cash payment covering the 80% then you get quite a break from both Hospitals. Doctors. Its not for everyone and its a Gamble that not a massive ailment . But I have now used that system for 20 years so mine. My daugter and I had the same check up done by same ENT. covered Sinus, and some tests.  her supplement was billed. additional $230. I got a balance due on my bill for $47.  Insurance is something a person has a hard time understanding here. Just have to do what feels comfortable having.
as paid of.
I have got very good Dr. All specialist. Had most for over 20 years. Get full physicals yearly. Eye Dr. twice a year. Don't take prescriptions.
Just been very lucky and had good health. Tried to watch such as weight. Diet and watched any little thing that didn't feel right. I do believe that Genetics do be a part of it.
