Janie, I can picture you now going down the aisles and selecting the goodies for your cupboard shelves and freezer. Enjoy girl…you surely have earned it.

Amy, I too had a special key to my car, that would have cost big bucks to replace it. I'm sure glad yours is a "recall" so you don't have to spend those extra hundreds of dollars.

Joy, you surely were a busy little Bee yesterday. Doesn't it feel good to get things sorted out and discarded or filed ?Little by little, after 10 months of residency here I too have got some things taken care of the needed sorting, etc.

Larry, just knowing that you are well and keeping busy is good news, we will miss your usual longer post, but you are excused this time.   :)

Phyllis, I balance my checkbook but going on line with my bank, and accepting what they say. I like Bis' method of balancing. My son shares my checkbook…he shares my whole life for that matter…so I let him worry about "stuff", and I just plow on through my days, and be happy.

Janie, sounds like you had a very, very, profitable morning..lots of labor though, so grab a nice nap this afternoon. You have earned it. I applaud W.M. for recognizing their employees as they do. We need more like them in this world.

Gloria, I am so glad you have such a good and caring son. Is he the one you had the upstairs Apt. with ? My two sons are entirely opposite personalities, but equally kind and helpful. God has Blessed us Gloria…have a nice nap.

Sandy. I am so proud of you and how you have handled your internet "stuff". I say "stuff", as that tells you how ignorant I am of what you have done. But the $$ you have saved can give you extra fun stuff to do. Congratulations.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

Hi June ...
Thank you so much for your
nice post.

I hope that others might just
benefit from my journey to ridding
myself of high cable internet/tv/phone costs that all of us have been subjected to
these past many years.

You have a good day,  June..

I live just within the Arctic Circle in Alaska. Statistically, we get our colder weather from Canada and the last three years we have had a high-pressure area perched above the Interior that has kept snow and colder weather from us. NOAA and other sites show no real change for this year and while we have had some colder weather with more predicted over Christmas, it is basically not that much different or unusual.

We, in the state's Interior,  normally do not have the same weather patterns or weather points of origins that the lower 48 states have, other than the state's Southeast which is part of the same rainforest geographical climate region as Washington and Oregon. If you were to get Alaskan weather, it would come through Western Canada which is normally colder than Alaska is. So, I wonder where that link is getting it's information from?

Sandy

Thanks Joan..

Believe me,  I  will let you all know
loud and clear,  if things don't work
out as I had hoped.

Have a great day,
Everyone!

CallieOK

Good Afternoon,

I also went 'hunting and gathering" this morning - then home for a quick bite of lunch before son took me to the dentist.
While having my teeth cleaned a couple of weeks ago  a big filling fell out of a back molar.
Today. I had a temporary crown put in.
I go back for the permanent one in three weeks,  the day before my birthday.
Happy Birthday and Merry Christmas, Callie!    :tissue:

Wasn't sure how well the h & g would go because, when I got to the grocery store, I discovered I'd left my list at home.  Amazingly,  I only forgot two items - and neither one of them was absolutely necessary.

I was able to get Christmas stamps at the grocery store so, as soon as I redo the mailing labels,  I'll be able to get the Christmas cards finished.
That and decorating will keep me busy if the yucky weather comes in as predicted.

Interesting link about that. Hal.
My hometown in southeastern Oklahoma has already cancelled its Christmas parade scheduled for Saturday evening because of the forecast.

We also need rain.  There have been several major grass fires around the OKC metro area over the past few days.  Fortunately, no buildings were involved.
The situation in Tennessee and North Carolina is just awful.

Hoping Everyfriend Everywhere has had an Enjoyable Day.

JoanFL

Callie--Is the crown for your tooth your birthday/Christmas present to yourself? :) If you left your grocery list home and only forgot two items, you have a terrific memory.

Maybe Callie doesn't have such a terrific memory.  We don't know how many items were on her list.  Maybe she only had 3 items and she forgot 2 of them. :2funny:

Jane, re: Callie's list. :2funny: :2funny: :2funny:

I did NOT sleep my afternoon away.  Thanks be !! I went to our Choir practice after I had a quiet lunch downstairs, then on to Balance and Mobility, which was fun. Now I am home going through gobs of mail, and still have to finish my meds assortment for the three days of boxes. I like to do three days at a time, rather that all seven...less confusing.I take eight pills a day. Three of them more than once a day, so it does require a little brain power of which I seem to be lacking more and more.

Had another delightful B. card come in the mail from our Chaplain and his wife. Very touching, and very welcome. I love living here more and more each day.

We have had a cool day, with clouds off and on, but no rain in our future.

Hal, I tried to understand the severe rain article you posted, but I felt it would take a meteorologist to understand it, so I quit. I just pray it will not cause any tragedies if it should come to pass.

Time to go finish up those medications arrangements, and try to stay awake to get myself downstairs for supper, which I rarely do, but they are having spareribs and sour kraut...one of my very favorite meals, and never having seen it posted before, I must take advantage of it.

As long as we are here, let's dance.

CallieOK

Darn it,  Jane - how did you figure it out?   :2funny:

Actually,  I had quite a few items on my list but most of them were things I usually need and knew I was out of.
I'm surprised I didn't come home with 4 or 5 things I didn't need!!!!

Joan,  the only good thing I can think of about the dentist's bill is that I can claim it as a medical deduction on my income tax. LOL

Shirley

Jane, before I forget again.... I don't trust my memory anymore... I was sure I commented about your daughter trying the Epsom salt & be it that or what.... is fixed.  I was so pleased she tried... and will remember how to cure so many problems the rest of her life.  I've used it for so many different boo-boos & never had it fail.  Thanks for believing & letting me know.

Sandy, I completely deleted the cable.... I get all 3 local stations with the "over the air" antenna.  ABC,CBS, NBC.... because it seems they are required to offer HD or digital??  I had to get a new little flat screen digital TV for the bedroom 'cause it didn't work on the old-old TVs.  I do still have internet, not the fastest but I'm okay with it... and still have the Cox phones.  I even canceled the newspaper, realized I rarely read anything but the obits & can read them online.  I was paying $220 a year & it was going up quite a bit.

I was feeling so good about saving money when I found a good looking pair of rib eye steaks at Sam's Club... I bought them last week!  Okay, about $10 each & both were near perfect.... and so much meat I fried & ate all I could of one & then cut the rest of the meat bite size & made gravy in the skillet, put the meat back in & had another 2 meals of steak & gravy.... 3 hardy meals from each $10 steak, not so expensive after all!  Sweet potatoes were on sale before Thanksgiving so one baked in the microwave is enough for 2 meals.... with lots of butter, some left over cranberry sauce & other veggies.... some salad & I'm getting hungry again~

Callie, I have not been keeping up with the weather while gone but heard we have a rain/snow mix & cold temps ahead.... finally tonight heard the messy weather will be here Friday night.  Sorry I can't get the pool shut down sooner but will just do it when son can come.  If any of the pool places would do it the way we've done for 30 years.... I have them come do it.... but they have other ideas & I know what has worked for us for 30 years & not willing to do things we tried & didn't work.  Had to let my son try what their pool people do the first couple years after Cas died.... and this past year he did what I asked & was totally amazed how well it worked.   ;D

I've got to close my eyes..... am bone tired.  Hugs & prayers for all..... Shirley

Sandy

Shirley,

I would have gotten an HD Antenna,  but I live in the city,  on the 2nd Floor of a seven floor building.      And they work best
in areas that have no buildings to interfere with their signal.    Center City is way
too congested for them to work.

It is good to hear that you are making good use of yours.       And also that someone else has "cut the cord"  with cable compainies.

I have no choice with my internet but
to continue with Time Warner .

There is no other internet available to
me here in where I live.

Time Warner has merged with Charter Spectrum,  so their name has now changed to "Spectrum" ....   (he he) ...

But I have so significantly cut the cost
of cable now that I too,  should go
buy me some steak...
(Wish I had teeth! (giggle))

Have a good night,  everyone!

Oh, I am soooooo tired. Went down for supper and who should appear but my oldest Grandson....my HUGE police man, with another Beautiful bouquet of flowers. I was overwhelmed. I haven't seen R.J. for several years now, so was just floored to look up and see this familiar face. It seems has grown pounds more and inches taller. His upper arm is like a piece of cement, and nearly as big around as my waist...well not quite that big, but BIG ! So I invited him to stay for dinner and then we came upstairs and chatted for an hour or so. What a treat. He works out of Anaheim now, so I expect to see him more often. His home is in Moreno Valley, near Hemet, but he likes the drive, so is content.

I have no commitments for tomorrow, so I plan to really relax, and let the world keep turning. Time to hit the pillow now, so have a blessed sleep tonight and a joyful tomorrow. God be with you. I love you all. June

CHUCKLES

Watch a Video

We had invited our friends William and Samantha to our home to watch a video, and William's 94-year-old mother accompanied them. During the show we noticed William nodding off. As his head dropped lower, it startled him awake. He jumped up and told his wife it was time to leave as his mother must be getting tired. Grandma tapped his hand and pointed out to him who was really tired.

She then looked at me. "Dear," she said, "the next time you invite me, I'll be sure to leave the children at home."

Food For Thought

A Childlike Amazement
(By Steve Troxel)

Matthew 18:3 "And He said: 'I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.'"

When my daughter was four years old, we read about young Samuel. While discussing this story, my daughter showed me the excited faith God calls us to maintain. Perhaps her faith could teach us all...

As a young boy, Samuel was ministering with an old priest named Eli. One night God called to Samuel, but Samuel thought it was Eli's voice. Eli said he didn't call and told Samuel to go back to bed. After God called a few more times, Samuel realized who was calling and answered: "Speak, for Your servant is listening" (1 Samuel 3:10). God then gave Samuel a message - but the message was all about Eli.

My daughter asked, "Why did God speak to Samuel if the message was really to Eli?" We talked about how we must be ready and willing to hear God. I said Eli may have had some problems or distractions in his life which kept him from hearing God, so God spoke His message through a child. I said little kids (like her) can often hear God better than older people (like me).

"But, I don't hear God talk to me," she said, with a little disappointment in her voice. I explained how God doesn't usually speak so we can hear Him with our ears; rather, His Spirit speaks to our heart and we hear Him as we listen to our heart. Her little eyes widened, "Like today when I was going to sit on one of the baby toys - Jesus told my heart I was too big and shouldn't do it so I listened to what He said."

I encouraged her that this is exactly how God speaks to us, we just need to learn how to listen and then obey. My daughter thought for a moment and then slowly shook her head in amazement: "Wow! That's sooooo cool!!"

Heavenly Father, I pray that Your Word never becomes just an interesting collection of stories. You created us, loved us, and will one day call us Home to be with You for all eternity - and Father, that's sooooo cool!! Help us to come into Your presence with a thankful and loving heart. Strengthen our faith every day and allow us to continually look on You and Your wonders with a childlike amazement.

Have a Christ Centered Day!

Good morning everyone
Drizzle again this morning, no dates with shovel or snowblower.

My vehicle now has 2 new key fobs and one ignition switch all for $ 1000.00 and I didn't have to pay!

Those Christmas gifts may get wrapped today and that is another job off my list. Managed to get some sewing in yesterday and hope to get the bindings on 2 quilts today. I love sitting and watching tv and hand sewing the binding onto the back of a quilt.

June, what a lovely surprise you had, bet you and your grandson had a lot to talk about.

Joan ,thank you for breakfast.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  Another busy day today.  I'll be at my station at WM for 4 hours of it and then I'll be home dipping chocolates for Christmas gifts.  This time of year, I have as many dates with the chocolate dipper as Amy has with the snow blower and shovel.

I'm going to put some of the chicken I bought yesterday in the crockpot for some upcoming dinners.  I guess I better get that done before the doggies begin clamoring for their dinner.

I wish you all a good day doing exactly what you enjoy.

Good Morning Everyone!

I hope everyone has a great day.

We are starting to get some sprinkles this morning.  "They" say rain all weekend and colder temps.  Which figures, my handyman was suppose to be here this morning to work on my backyard gate.  But guess the Good Lord knows best and my gate can wait while we get some much needed moisture.

Coffee is ready for those that want a cup.  And Lloyd you can dunk if you like or saucer and blow your coffee if you like.  If you don't know what that is, well, you ain't from my neck of the woods.  Folks don't do that much anymore, could be cause they don't serve coffee in cups and with a saucer.

JoanFL

Good morning, halkel.  Never heard "saucer and blow".  Does it pertain to pouring your coffee in the saucer, blowing it cool and pouring back in the cup?  No rain forecast here, but it sure has gotten colder.

Click for Melbourne, Florida Forecast

I saw my grandfather do that and then drink it out of the saucer.  My grandmother saw it too and she said, "GEORRRRRGE".  I never saw him do it again.

I'm off! and as Callie says, "CUL8ER"

Gloria

Good morning everyone, I sure made up my sleep last night. Was asleep by 8 I think.

JOAN  setting my alarm I was afraid I would sleep through it. I have before. Then it might wake my neighbor up, too. Her bedroom and mine are on other sides of the wall and the walls are not soundproof. Almost had nap yesterday but the darn phone kept ringing. Let the machine pick it up but still kept me awake.

SANDY  I have been thinking a lot lately about cutting cable. I so not watch much TV and dislike paying for channels I never watch.

JUNE  the son who took me yesterday is the one who lives 3 miles from me and is newly retired. The son where I lived before comes here every week end and is a big help.  My sons are quite different, too, but both are caring.

HAL  ice age returning? My SIL now living in Arizona is getting used to the colder temperatures already. It has been colder than than here in RI. It has been unusually warm here so far this season.

PATRICIA  I often wonder how the forecasters get their information. Even here in this smallest state the weather/temperature can vary a lot from where I am to where they get the “official” reading from.

CALLIE  not the way to celebrate your birthday and Christmas.  Many times I forgot my grocery list at home and ended up buying things not on it instead.

SHIRLEY  I have not bought a steak in a long time. Yours sounded so good my taste buds were hollering for some.

JUNE  what a wonderful surprise to see you grandson.

JOAN  an apple fritter will be so good this morning. Like Chuckles.  He was bored and blamed it on Grandma. Food for Thought is a good one. Thank you for all today's goodies.

LLOYD  glad you enjoyed the cookies and tea.

AMY  sun is shining here and still warmer than usual for this time of year.

JANE  have a good day at WM.

HAL  I remember seeing a sister do that saucer and blow and then drink it from the saucer. I had to ask her what she was doing. Never saw that before and I was only a kid then.

Janie--Must be your grandma's word was law.:)

Good morning, Gloria.  You're very thoughtful not setting your alarm for fear it will wake your neighbor.  My neighbor across the street was here yesterday, and we were talking about how our cable bills keep going up.  I pay about $160/mo. for mine.

When I was a kid the old folks, men, would do it often, rush in to get a cup of coffee before heading out to the fields and wanted a quick cup of coffee, it wasn't something you did except around family, although I do remember some folks would do it at a lunch counter in cafes.  That was when you could get a cup of coffee (with refills) for a nickle and a slice of pie for a dime.  Of course a good wage in those days was about 10-12 dollars a week.  If I remember correctly I think the first real steady job I had paid me 37.50 a week, worked six days a week for that at a department store.
