I am so glad to see the Larry's slideshow with variety of bird colors.

Wonderful video, Jean !   I was surprised, also, to see the Cow Bird.  I remember when we first moved up to the country many years ago, we had so many birds that I had never noticed before.  I had a nice big kitchen window and right away put up a bird bath with several feeds around and got a bird  book so that I could identify all the birds.  I remember I was so fascinated by the cow bird.  Just was a different kind of bird.  Not very pretty, like so many we had visit the feeders.  Spent a lot of time watching the birds out of my big kitchen window.

Here where I live now,  they don't allow bird feeders, saying they attract the various unwanted visitors.  Some of the residents that live on the ground level were disappointed when they had to take down their feeders.

Isn't it the cowbird that lays it eggs in another bird's nest for the other bird to incubate the eggs and those eggs usually are larger than the substitute mother's, causing her eggs to fail  I used to feed the birds from my deck and a song sparrow would show up with a couple of cowbird babies.  I eventually took away the feeder.

Mary Ann

Shirley

You are right, Mary Ann.  We had a nest of "house finches" build over the light between garage doors.  Watched the finches lay 4 or 5 eggs and then watched the cowbird push finch eggs out so hers had room.  The pair of cowbirds disappeared while the finch sat on the eggs & fed the babies.  As soon as the babies were ready to leave the nest the real parents returned to collect their kids.  I could see the feeder from my kitchen window so did everything possible to chase off the cowbirds.  When cats came the birds quit nesting so close.  I have lots of bird books & enjoy checking out what comes to the feeder, especially during migration. Doesn't take a lot to make US happy, huh, Joy?   :)   Even the birds are looking wilted with our heat... I just hang out at the windows & stay in AC except early morning or late evening.

Joy, I am so happy we are allowed to feed the birds and have and umbrella clothesline, which some parks do not allow.  I spend many hours at my dinning room table watching the birds in the bird bath , the feeder also my husband built a lot of bird houses.

MaryAnn, for the last two years I have had a sparrow come  with this bird she feed, she has to go high to feed his open mouth. I did not know what kind it was,

Spotted a pileated woodpecker this morning, have not seen one for years.  It landed on a light pole, but then took off past me.  No time for a photo.  Beautiful bird, and do not see many in my area.

In this morning news  ---

Ohio County Health Department officials believe the cat in North Wheeling that had rabies probably got it from interaction with a wild animal such as a raccoon or fox, and most likely from ground feeding.

Officials say they understand people like to feed wildlife, but they urge them to stop immediately.

"Whether it's a concern, you're leaving food out because it's been a harsh winter, or you want them around the area, we have a lot of concern that they may bring disease in," noted Howard Gamble, Ohio County Health Department administrator. "Everything from rabies to Lyme Disease with deer, and eventually if we're leaving out water, it could attract mosquitoes and mosquito-borne diseases."

He says if you feed your pets outdoors, just make sure you clean up afterward.

Mary Ann

Jack, fortunately I"m not guilty of feeding birds, Kendrick or wild animals outside.  I did have a bid feeder many years ago but the squirrels got into the feeders and I finally took the feeders down and have not put them up since.  I do enjoy seeing pictures of many different birds at the feeders.

Mary Ann

Shirley

I hate to tell y'all, but I do feed everything.  What ever I have "leftover" goes to critters that live in this area, we've moved into their hunting ground and they are here whether I feed or not.  I can't throw food in the trash that animals can eat.  I don't make them depend on what I feed, but it might save a bird or other small animal from being eaten.  We've done our part by having several "fixed" plus rabies shots & other shots when young.

I called the vet to see if one would come out into their parking lot to give shots to 3 cats, I can get them into the RV but can't take them out in a cage, when we get home I open the side door & they hop out.  The cages stay in the RV, much too heavy & awkward to lift up & down the steps.  The parking lot/vet office is on a busy street, if they got out they would be killed immediately as they would run into the street.  They are past due their rabies shots so I have worried..... office girl at the vet said they couldn't come into the RV to give the shots.  I am not sure how Callie would react to the movement of the RV, for sure Tom would throw up just the short distance to the office.  You can guess, a subject I've worried about, with a mild winter we will probably have rabies & distemper all over the county, I have to figure a way to get their shots, maybe my son can carry them in one by one for me, when he comes up with a spare day.

Jack, I've seen the pileated woodpecker when camping in MO, but the red headed woodpecker is more common.  When we first moved to this house a red headed ran into the fence around the pool & stunned it, never saw another here.  We have a western belted kingfisher that has driven me crazy trying to get a good shot of it as it zooms past laughing at me.  30 years I've seen it on the overhead power lines crossing the river at the bridge and it goes up & down the river laughing.  I used to ride my bike down to the bridge in hopes of a good shot, but not enough zoom.  Now have a camera with long enough zoom but not the energy to ride to the bridge.  Maybe later.....

FlaJean

Shirley, we have the Eastern Bluebird.  Another blue bird that was in the video is the Blue Grosbeak.  We had never seen one until we moved here.

Sato, It is nice to see you posting.

We all  put out food for the 3 stray cats we have living around, we figure they  will kieep the mice population down.  Then we have a huge racoon that come to eat.

Jean,  I loved your videos of your birds.  Thank you for sharing.  Will all or most of those birds hang around in your yard until the weather is warmer or will some of them fly farther north for the summer?

I usually have big flocks of cardinals here in Auburn which stay around for a couple of days and then leave for more northern places, but not many this spring.  I have at least one pair of cardinals, maybe two pairs, who are nesting in my fence with lots of foliage.  I haven't seen any chick, though.

I can see that those birds really appreciate your feeders!

Great slide show of the birds.  I also am surprised that we have many of the same birds. The Bluebird is our State Bird but I have never seen one here. We do have doves, blue jays, woodpeckers, cardinals, finches, sparrows, and last but not least mocking birds.  Currently we are helping the mocking bird raise the latest crop of young ones.  They (or he) make repeated trips here for a handout of raisins. They were here last year and must remember.  All the others, including squirrels, get chow too.  There's beauty in nature

...thank you...my favourite flowers..the Rose...of course the fragrant roses are my main choice...Back where I used to live we had a well-known place in Hertfordshire called Gardens of the Rose based near St Albans but, sadly I read it has now been put on the market to sell, so is closed to visitors...I also went there for outdoor live concerts such as The Proms...joining in with the flag waving's to Rule Britannia - Pomp and Circumstance - Land of Hope and Glory etc, etc...we would take along our folded chairs, lanterns, and picnic for the evenings occasion...I remember one concert we went to see live was the violinist Vanessa Mae...this was an Idyllic setting surrounded by a mixture of colourful Roses...

Sato, always pleased to see you post, and another beautiful group of photos.

Jackie you paint a pretty story with your memories of times past.

Mary Ann

Sato, it is so nice to see a new video from you.  The roses are beautiful.

Jackie, nice memories of past times.  Have you found any entertaining places in your present location?

Mary Ann

FlaJean

Sato, beautiful roses.  You and your wife are both masters of the camera.  We had rose gardens in Maryland and in Ocala, but they require a lot of maintenance and now we choose flowers and shrubs that require very little attention.  So I enjoy the photos of those roses more than ever.

Vanilla Jackie, for about 4 years I traveled with several groups to Latin American countries.  One of those times, there was a lovely couple from England.  I had a baseball cap which I wore to keep the sun off my face with SAHS on front and back.  The wife asked me if I were a graduate of St. Albans High School (in England).  I told her no--that my St. Albans was a local public school named for our small town which in turn was named for a gentleman who settled there in the early 1800's after moving to West Virginia from St. Albans, Vermont.  I think I went down in her estimation as I had the impression that St. Albans near London was a very prestigious school.   Never the less, I thought my High School was a good one.  After graduation I attended the U. of South Carolina and graduated in 3 years due to hard work and extra hours in classes.  It is a small world after all!

Thank you everyone for your kind messages given to my slideshow. To my regret, I have posted too many files to Vimeo.   It seems that I have to delete some sources of them.

...no not really...where I lived before was well-known for its Stately Homes...where I live now has none but it does have Castles, yet I have not been taken to any, nor in my state would I be able to get around any...The Stately homes around Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire would be places to put on an outdoor concert, or open their private House and Gardens for craft fairs or open garden shows, of which I had been to several over the years but this isn't the case anymore...

Sato I watched both slide shows and so beautiful.   Nice to be able to go back and view the shows you have kept on Vimeo.

Mary Ann

Sato, I viewed both of the videos too and they are beautiful.  I think I remember seeing the one done in 2015 with the hydrangeas and the other flowers.

It's good to have you show up every once in a while.  I hope your health is improving.

Mary Ann

FlaJean

Sato, enjoyed the videos.  Our hydrangeas are just starting to bloom.  I especially like the first video with roses.  They are favorites but a lot of work to keep them in tip top shape.

Joy

Jean, did you have any problems with the storm?  I heard on the TV that the Panhandle had a lot of really bad rain.  I was thinking about you when I heard that.  Hope all is well .

Joy, we had some rain but the hard rain and wind was east of us.  It didn’t even seem like a storm here, and I’m glad!

Sato

Jean, I'm glad to hear that the storm passed away east of your area.
