Well, I wrote a big ol' long post, full of ravishingly fascinating minutiae, only to have every speck of it disappear forever!  If anyone runs into it, do let me know.

In the meanwhile, I will try to redo it, so y'all won't have to suffer deprivation from my deathless prose for too long.

Becky left Missouri in the wee hours, and Debi picked her up and they called me on their way back to Deborah's.  Steve is beside himself with Joy and Anticipation; he does love Our Rebecca.  Becky is tickled to be here for Commissioning Week (we used to call it Graduation Week back in the day, and the place was West Point. I never dreamed I would spend my last years in Enemy Territory!) For those of you who are drawing a blank, my dad was a West Point grad and I spent my early years as an Army Brat.  I have never been able to find out, in all these long years, why Army kids are Brats, while Navy kids are Juniors.  If anyone knows, DO enlighten me.  As for what they call Air Force kids. I have no notion.  We did not even have an Air Force Academy when I was coming up!  They were just tacked on to the Army at first.  But then again, the aeroplane had not been around very long back then.  Anyway, the Blue Angels are doing their almost all day long practice runs TODAY!  Woo hoo!

You can hear them outside.  What a roar they make: especially when they pass over this building!  Fun!

They will do their Big Show for grads and their families and guests tomorrow.  Today is just as good, though: and they do their stuff over and over in practice!  We will catch it all from Debi's dining room while we play Mexican Train and I stuff down the Spumoni.

We have gorgeous weather, and are glad of it.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MARY PAGE!

Have a fun day today playing Mexican Train with your daughters and your son, and enjoy lots of spumoni and some birthday cake! :cake:

Back up, I usually sleep 2 or 3 hours & get up to see what I'm missing. Will turn off the lights when I shut down, Rick.

Happy Birthday, Mary Page. Sounds like a great party, hope to see a photo of the gathering!

Good morning Shirley.  You're down, I'm up. Hello to whoever else gets here. Hopefully a nice warm, sunny, day for everyone.

MaryPage, Happy Birthday!. It sounds like you have been having a fun week.

MarsGal

It hasn't been a particularly fun week for some of the ships on the Great Lakes this past week or so. John Boland made an emergency trip to Duluth to have a hole in its hull repaired. Mark W. Barker, the newest Great Lakes freighter, lost power and grounded on Belle Isle, and now last night Cuyahoga suffered an engine fire out on Lake Erie. Cuyahoga is the oldest Canadian ship sailing the Great Lakes. There are only two others, I read, that are older. I am guessing those two would be Alpena and Lee A. Tregurtha, both American registered.

Jackie, those flowers are Gorgeous, and I thank you!  Real heart warmers they!

We had a great game and a great luncheon.  I've had loads of cards and gifts.  I am particularly taken with a large box of what look like very large chocolates, each one in a different variety of highly decorated chocolate shells.  Huge strawberries!  Yum! Yum! Yum!  These came from my daughter Elizabeth.

The Spumoni was/is divine.  I brought home several pints, as well and all.  Feeling spoiled!

I am sorry
I have not been posting as much as I would like.  I postin the SODA SHOPPE and try to share it here but question if that might bug everyone as most of us post in both folders😩

First off........HAPPY BIRTHDAY WISHES to you, MARYPAGE.  I am so sorry to be this late to do this. It seems you had a lovely day that is wonderful ❣️ YOU my friend deserve to be spoiled as much as possible 🥰

Life continues with health issues.  Sometimes I just feel like running away and take my chances with what is left of my life then continue to see all of these doctors that seem to want to help me.  I am thankful for having good ones but quest times wonder IF they really are needed🤷♀️

Love all of your posts...sorry for not commenting on each and every post.

MARILYN, I have often wondered myself if our Kate will want to  follow in Miss Emily's footsteps?? This weekend she is at a competition at Disneyland.  I would have loved to have gone but we are the dog sitter‼️

My best to you ALL.

Looks like a cool and windy Memorial Day weekend here.   Our weather is sticking to the traditional Gray-May,  and soon be June-Gloom.  Then around Father's Day, the sun comes out and the hot days of Summer finally arrive.

Jenny -  So sorry you're still suffering from health issues, causing you pain and too many doctor visits!  :(  Hoping some of those doctors will come up with something new that will help you?  Good for Kate, that she's continuing on with her dance competitions. This one at Disneyland, will be fun for the whole family.

Mary Page -  Looks like your birthday celebration came off as planned, with all of your adult children there with you.   You mentioned that a couple of your daughters would be staying on with you this week, so I'm sure that the fun will continue on!  :)

Hope that all Bait and Tacklers, have a great holiday weekend!

Good evening‼️ Raining out again tonight.  It was beautiful earlier today and we should NEVER complain about getting moisture ‼️

MARILYN, thank you for your kind words.  For some dumb reason I never anticipated being in my shoes.  There were very little medical issues in my family and I have always been healthy....then that fall two years ago seemed to change it ALL. It is what I have been dealt so I must deal with it.....as many in our group do🤪🤪🤪. I sure do appreciate the continuing support you all give me🥰. We just finished watching our granddaughter dancing her solo at Disney Land. She danced beautifully....of course🥰🥰🥰

SWEET DREAMS TO ALL‼️

Wow. This horrendous
air quality is truly ghastly.  Becky is back in Missouri, and I just sent Chip to the store with the caution:  "Come straight home and DON'T BREATHE!"

We are right next to Washington, D.C. and they are cancelling all of their ball games and such today.  Amazing!

Fortunately, we have no plans for the weekend, so will lie low and do as little as possible.

CallieOK

Miss Ellen, granddaughter in NYC, posted a Facebook picture of the sky over Times Square yesterday afternoon.
It was entirely yellow!!!!  She said it was scary looking.  She's wearing an N95 mask to work, as well as inside the store. Didn't comment about the # of customers. Her "Nanny Twins" are out of town with their parents this week so she's "dog sitting" and has to take him out = but not for long.

We're under an Air Alert Warning but, according to the weather gurus, it's due to atmospheric conditions - not smoke.
We had some of that earlier this year from wildfires but it wasn't as bad as the Northeast is and didn't last too long.

Stay safe, Friends.

A very belated  :hb3:, MaryPage.  It sounds like a Good One!

Jenny, it was Miss Ellen that was hoping for a career in musical theater.  (Miss Emily is the chiropractor) Unfortunately, the Covid Crisis put a stop to auditions and now, the community theaters want auditions via video rather than coming to NY for live ones.  That costs about $50 every time she makes a video audition - plus postage, etc.  She doesn't do as well on video and, now that's she's 30, she's competing with girls who are 10 - 12 years younger.
However, she says she occasionally tries - but hasn't gotten a callback in quite a while.
Good luck to your granddaughter!!!

Marilyne

Mary Page -  Good to see your message!  I was starting to get worried about you.  So sorry to see you're also suffering from the smoke from the fires in Canada.  I saw pictures on the news tonight, of NYC, DC, Boston and other cities on the East coast. Not a pretty sight!  Hope you get relief soon.

Callie - Sorry that Miss Ellen is suffering as well.  Since she works two jobs, she must carry-on, regardless of the smoke.  Here's hoping it won't last much longer.

I have been a news junkie all of my life.  Literally all of my life.  Being an ancient bag of bones now, I am able to remember, as some of you cannot, when there was no television and news reels had to be seen in movie theatres.
Otherwise, you got your news on the radio.  Daddy & I listened to the news nightly during dinner.  Lowell Thomas and H.V. Kaltenborne.
I was in love with the voice of Lowell Thomas when I was about six years old.
I hate to tell you this, but senility is invading my brain.
The funny thing is that while I am able to forget something at a speed faster than the speed of light, I can still entertain myself with vivid pictures of my childhood.  Thus I can remember so very much told me all those long years in the past.  History teachers would envy me my total recall.  Me, I would like to know where I just hid my birthday box of chocolates from my family.  Seems to me my having found the PERFECT spot to hide them is not being of all that much help to ME!
So I am loving all of this afternoon's coverage and looking forward to tonight's.  No matter your personal politics, you must feel the same.  History books will be written! I now regret the books I never wrote. I was 12 when WWII hit us and 16 when we marched joyously in the streets in celebration of the end.  My daddy was in the first plane to fly in to accept the Japanese surrender.  Mind, that was just the disposable intelligence people.  Daddy said they had no idea whether they would be shot or welcomed.  Welcomed was the answer.  He brought home large bolts of real silk in light blue and light green.  They also gave him a piece of jade as big as, he said, my fist;  but that was stolen later on his ship home.  By then, films had been taken of the "real" surrender with the proper diplomats.  I swear, the back stage stories should be written up, as well and all.  I find them fascinating.  Oh, and my dad was on the first train taking Americans to see what they had wrought in Nagasaki.  Daddy felt like crying, and that was not the daddy I knew.

Denver

I always enjoy reading all the news everyone shares and I apologize for not posting more.  My neck pain has me doing anything to try to alive the pain and looking/typing on my iPad is one thing I have found that bothers it more than anything.  Today I decided I really want to catch up on the post. I read so many wonderful posts in the SODA SHOPPE  and wrote one of my longest posts ever......commenting on so many interesting things that were posted.  I was rushing to get it posted as I needed to get ready to go to a BBQ with Dr. Dave and Family.

I do not know what key I hit but poof.....my post was GONE.  I did everything to see if I could retrieve it to no avail😩😢  I literally cried BIG OL CROCODILE TEARS 😭

Now I am back home and just do not have it in me to try to rewrite my thoughts again.

We have been having so much rain here.  I can never complain about well needed moisture HOWEVER we are having flood warnings nearly every day here in our area.  It has pretty much drowned out all of my beautiful potted flowers.  No time between rain/hail storms for them to dry out a bit😢😢 I bought a beautiful new hummingbird feeder....hung it over a flower pot that had the healthiest planted flowers I have in it.  Mr. Raccoon 🦝 spotted it.....got up into the pot crushing ALL of my beautiful flowers and bending all the metal on the beautiful glass feeder.  I was thankful it did not go over and break the glass.....as it sure could have😢😩

On that note I must say good night .  I need to fix us a bit of dinner.....vegetables will be the main course‼️

Miss you ALL and I want you to know I enjoyed reading each and ever one of your posts‼️

Hello everyone.  Not very good on the computer these days but happened to drop in here this afternoon and so good to see all those names appearing.  Takes me back to earlier days when I managed better.  News of bushfires is not good and hope those brave men with some assistance from overseas can overcome. We had our share of covid and had many lockdowns at this Aged Care which meant no visitors.  At the moment it is quiet and hope you have all dodged the viras.  I did have my dose, maybe 6 injections did take effect.  Hope I am able to drop in again sometime.

Always so nice to drop in here & find someone awake!  It is 3:48am here & I have been awake with itchy skin (whole body) for an hour already. Going to take a shower & oil me down, it is just dry skin & the body being stretched & shrunk by water pills so doctors can get a better view of the heart.

Junee, I still have a love for your big red birds and wish they could survive our weather. Alas, we have the small cardinals & even house finches that are half red where I live. Do hope you can come back to visit. I also had my bout with covid but managed to stay in my own home with food left on the porch from my kids.

Jackie, I think of you often but especially this morning as I await a shipment from Omaha Steaks. When you used to receive the boxes of foods (do you still?) it seemed such a good thing to me. We are in a serious drought here so have not seen or heard of any fresh produce being sold or offered.

It is 61 degrees right now & I have the sliding door open here by the computer. House is a muggy 75 inside. Off to take a shower & wash my hair & then back to sleep a couple hours before daylight. Will admit, this has NOT been the most fun part of my life but I have had many years to be thankful for. Nice to see you both & to remember when we were all in better shape!  Shirley/Tisie

Good to see so many new messages here this morning!

Junee -  Glad to see you here again!  Hope the firefighters get your brush fires under control ASAP.   They are still battling forest fires in Canada, and I'm afraid our usual seasonal wildfires here in California, will be returning once again.  WE did have a wet Winter for a change, so maybe they won't be as destructive as in the past.  Tell us about how you spend most days at your retirement home?    So glad that Covid is no longer a worry for you, so you can probably socialize more.  I haven't heard of anyone getting Covid here either, for a long time.   I hope it stays that way for all everyone, everywhere in the World!

Shirley -  Always happy to see a post from you here in Bait & Tackle.    It's good that you're still doing well, in spite of all your health problems.   Those water pills are hard to deal with in many ways, but they are helping to keep many of us alive and active.   Whatever else you are doing or taking, keep up the good work!     You sound much better than you did a couple of months ago.

Jackie -  I hope you have a positive and helpful  visit tomorrow,  with your primary MS consultant.
Those box deliveries of organic food, sound good.  I'm always thinking about starting up some home food delivery services, but so far I haven't  done it.  I know it would be a big help, as I'm no longer an enthusiastic cook.  (Not sure I ever was?)  ::)

It is quiet over here.
no one has posted in a long time ...

Hope you all ae OK!!

Good Sunny Morning, everyone.

Sandy, I've been splitting my comments between here and the Soda Shop lately, but all in all I have not had much to report.

We had a few days without an air quality alert, but it is back again to Orange mainly because of another dose of Canadian wildfire smoke.

The rain we have had the last few days has helped to partially regreen the lawn. I don't think it is growing much so I probably won't have to mow the lawn for a few more days. I should, however, get out and do some weeding and brush clearing. Maybe, a little later today, if the whim strikes me.

Amazon is still messing around with things. In the last two days, they sent down updates for my Fire tablets. Yesterday, when I went to get into one of my apps, it refused to open. I deleted it and planned to redownload it. Well, it is nowhere to be found. Not only that, I noticed a distinct reduction in the number of apps available in the Nutrition and Diet category. Hmmmmm! I'll have to go to the main website now, I guess.

Last evening, I watched two YouTube clips about a new version of Linux called Vanilla OS. Unlike many of the other Linux based OS' this one has its' core programing "locked" so that no one can change the programing in it. Meanwhile you can still install and change coding within apps and programs you might wish to change or customize. These are locked-out from making changes to the core programming making the OS more secure from hackers and malicious software. The type of programing used in Vanilla OS is commonly used in business computers and servers, but not much in consumer Linux programming. I plan on checking into it more a bit later today.

Time for breakfast.

MarsGal

Well, more interesting changes. I just tried removing several apps from my apps collection up on the Amazon website that I no longer use. It won't let me. So, all I can do is remove them from my Fire tablets. Oh well, much for being able to truly manage my apps and remove useless clutter.

MarsGal,
Give them a day or so to finish "messing around" with whatever they are trying to do. If you had a problem, so have others, and for sure Amazon is hearing from them. Typical, they will figure it out and fix it soon.

Lots of changes going on with Amazon.  Disappointing, that there will no longer be  free shipping and free returns on all items.   Apparently only those that are designated as "Prime", or items that you buy in large amounts, like ten tubes of toothpaste, instead of just one or two?  I haven't had a chance to really figure out the changes yet?    Apparently poor old Jeff Bezos, needs our money!  He's only the third wealthiest man in the World. ::)

Speaking of money . . . Joe Biden will be here in our suburban town today, for  one of those pricey campaign fundraising dinners. This one at the home of one of the many Silicon Valley billionaires - the CEO of LinkedIn.  Tickets for the dinner, start at $6,600. By invitation only, of course.   I wonder why I didn't get one?  🤔
