Hi Pat,
Joan is missed.  Hope you are feeling better these days.

Lloyd Hammond

Hi Pat
we are all thinking and praying for Bis, she is the greatest.all I know is the note Her son posted about the vent and sedation so she could get badly needed rest.
good to see you as well. Have a great rest of the day.

Lloyd

JaneS

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's frigid here today and I've just been out shoveling and was reminded of my limitations.  I only did a small section of sidewalk and the porch steps and decided to take a break.  If that's what I have to do, it will take me most of the day to do the "trim" work that the snow blower doesn't do.

Annie has an appointment at the Vet this morning and I'm pretty sure I'll be rescheduling.  I'm going to reserve judgement on that until daylight and I see what I have to do to be able to get my car out.  I'm supposed to work at 3:30 today but the weather report says we might get more snow later today.  I've adopted a policy of "Wait and see!"

Nice to see Pat checking in.  I wish it was just because she misses us and not because Joanie is in the hospital.  Come back once in a while just to say "hello" won't you Pat?

Good morning Lloyd and Mycheal.  You were here while I slept.

I hope today will be a good one for Everyfriend!

Good morning everyone..

Yesterday ended up being perfect, despite the call for more snow. Those to the south did end up shoveling or snow blowing at least twice yesterday.I managed to nip into town to pick up milk, fresh fruit and dog food ,fill up with gas which is now 1.03.9 a litre.and head home. Filled the wood box and brought more in close to the house . Today I had better bake ,company is coming later on to drop off my quilt . I did manage to throw together a johnny cake yesterday to have with coffee/tea .

Golden girl is enjoying her new found freedom off the leash. She found some new snow and down she went 4 legs flailing in the air giving herself a good roll.

Jane, please be careful out there shoveling that snow!!

June, dear me, gentle hugs for you, please take care and prayers your way.

Joan, hope each day finds you a bit stronger......take baby steps first.prayer for you also.

Enjoy your day everyone..

It's cold here but we did not have the huge amounts of snow that all of our friends up NE had, or are having.  Thinking about all of you and hoping you will be very careful with snow shoveling and traveling, if you have to be out.

Though my prayer chain is always working it does tax my old brain to try to remember to include special prayers for those who need them.  But, I guess I don't need to worry.  God's memory is always good and he will take care of all of us according to his plan.

June, I'm thinking of you and hoping that the results of this last fall are healing quickly.  I'm grateful that you are in such a caring place and can get help quickly, if you need it.

Joan is always in my prayers.  I remember how she hated being on the ventilator the last time she was hospitalized but it will help ease her breathing and let her get some much needed rest.

Amy!!!  Johnny cake!!!!   Please, please, may I have some?  It's been forever since I tasted a good Johnny cake.

Please stay safe and warm, Everyfriend.

Goodness, I can't keep my promise to shut up, but Johnny cake is something I've heard of, Amy, but never knew what it was.... so had to Google & am curious if it is same as the cornbread my mother-in-law made.  She used the self rising cornmeal but no sugar like MY mother used.... heated a cast iron skillet with Wesson oil till the oil was dancing..... poured in the mixture & baked in a hot oven (400)... my husband loved the crunchy bottom that became the top when turned over onto a plate.  I learned to like it with a pot of beans, hash browns or fried potatoes & cold slaw.   So does my cornbread sound like Johnny cake?  So glad the Golden girl is able to roll again.  Oh, I didn't go to recipes but Wikipedia... duh...........

Phyll, you would not believe how dry it is in Wichita.  Everything is blooming but I wonder if the Bradford & Cleveland pear trees will have their "fruit" on for the birds... looks like the blossoms might have frozen (as did my jonquils & even forsythia looks sick).  Below freezing nights & not warmed up during the day to save them. Temps going up starting today, to 80 by Sunday.

I was up as early as Lloyd but hoped to go back to sleep... got a busy day ahead & wanted to get my shower & hair washed before #1 son arrives at 8:00-8:30 am.  I went to sleep shortly after 11:00 pm & woke up at 2:48 am, got out of bed about 3:30 am & headed to the kitchen (after bathroom visit), my eyes were not stuck shut this morning but were itching big time.  Ate a hard boiled egg & 2 pieces of toast, cup of coffee ... and fed 2 cats, the other 2 were not ready to get up.  I have time for an hour nap but wanted to check on my chewy order....still no notice of "out for delivery".  I am ready for the day with still time for a nap if I shut up.

Jane, last time I used the snowblower I decided the driveway & sidewalk "trim" could wait for Mother Nature to melt.... no more shoveling for me.  Take care.... you & Amy are probably the most "fit" ladies I know, but... should I mention that we are all getting older?   ::)  And we are wanting all to keep on keeping on.

Good to see you, Pat, think of you often & wonder how you are doing.  Haven't seen any of your fantastic photos lately, must get over to your Christian Photographers but never have enough time to do all I want.

Oh, yummmm.... Amy, sounds good to me!

Wake up, America!  Spring really is under all that snow!  Have a "Wonderful Wednesday!" (thanks to Callie).

Gloria

Good morning everyone, well the storm is over and we did not het as much as predicted.. This area had the most in this state-14 inches. At the airport they had 1 ½ inches of rain. The storm mosed a bit furthjer to the west and those places had 18 inches of snow. A wind turbine here at the shore was blown down. It had survived hurricanes but not this storm. We did not lose power, not even a flicker. Still windy but not as bad. Colder this morning, 15°.

SANDY  you are lucky to have your daughter take you grocery shopping. It must be more than a year since I was last in a market. I order on line and my CNA goes to the market for me. One son comes most every week end and always calls and asks if I need anything before he comes. He is the one who gets my fresh produce because he knows what I like and how fussy I am about it.

JANE  my son has to shovel a path for his little dog, too. He does not like snow and when it is raining he does not want to go out either. Just heard we have a chance of snow flurries this afternoon. Like with you a lot of places were closed here.

HAL  I felt bad yesterday for all those who had to go to work. This morning the side roads have a lot of black ice and that is worse than the snow. This is not the first time we had a big storm near this time in March.

JEANNE LEE  I was watching them start to move cars in the parking lot. Behind the cars is the mess from the plow and some cars had to be shoveled out to move them. When they get moved the plow will clean up again. Like you this is when I am glad I do not have a car.

SHIRLEY  I would gladly have sent this snow your way but you know Mother Nature will not be changed from what she wants and who she wants to make a mess for. No sliding down that hill for you this year. I got a big order on Monday and still forgot 2 things. YOU BETTER NOT BE QUIET FOR A WEEK OR WE WILL WORRY ABOUT YOU.

JANE  I must be smart. I clean my desk and it looks great, in 2 days the mess is back again.

JOY  I have a DIL who works in a hospital in Providence and she did go to work yesterday and made it home OK. I see the parking lot here and the pines on one side and maple trees on the road side. The sky is a beautiful blue this morning.

JUNE  I am glad you had a good night sleep and have help there all the time if needed. I am glad you moved there. Be careful, no more falls allowed, you have used up your share of them.

GLORIA de  I was wondering yesterday how it was where you live. We ended with some rain here and along the shore it was rain and wind. Another time I am glad I do not live there.

LLOYD  you just be careful. No more accidents and hurting yourself.

PAT  always good seeing you. I hope you are doing well. We all miss Joan and are praying for her.

JANE  hope you did not have too much snow to shovel.

AMY  I can picture your Golden out there enjoying the freedom and the snow. I used to love watching the dogs in my life over thI have never had years playing in the snow.  I have never had Johnny cake. Never saw a recipe for it.

PHYLLIS  like you Joan is in my thoughts and prayers all the time.

AMY  wow Johnny cake and REAL maple syrup, what a way to start my day. Yummy.

Shirley and all...I did NOT operate the snow blower.  I'm a 1/3 owner of it and my (much younger) neighbors are the operators.  They cleared my driveway and even shoveled the edges.  But a hefty wind whipped up over night and now the edges need it again.  I noticed my good neighbors have been back and cleared me a path at the street end after the county snow plow did it's damage.  But I will have to shovel where it drifted against the gate and some of the edge.  I don't always go straight out and I don't want to get stuck.

I called and rescheduled Annie's vet appt for next week so I don't really have to be out until 3 to go to work.  I promise to take short work times and long breaks.

It really does look kind of pretty but I bet my neighbors don't think that.

Sandy

Good Morning Everyone from the snow covered,  windy,  cold,  but very sunny,  rocky coast of Maine.

Yes we had a BLIZZARD which dropped lots and lots of snow and we are now in the process of cleaning up...

The roads are so-so,  and some of the sidewalks are partially cleared,  but we have a lot of snow to get rid of before walking around gets easier.   But even so,  buses are running and the city is busy and there are lots of people out there walking around.
They seem to be enjoying it.    Not me.  I am in for the day and will be satisfied watching other  people negotiating  the walk ways.

Have a good day everyone and stay cozy and warm.
Sandy

Hope that  you are feeling better today,  Joan !

Hi everyone.  We have a beautiful sunny morning here in South Carolina although it was 36 degrees when I got up this morning and apparently some areas around here got below freezing as my weather app said it was 30 degrees.  We changed our plans yesterday as after the doctor's appointment and going to eat lunch at Tin Lizzy's we decided to call it a day and came home to rest.  So today we plan on doing our shopping at Costco this morning.  This evening is our usual Wednesday night dinner at Church and it will have a St. Patrick's theme with Irish stew, cooked cabbage, Irish soda bread, salad and dessert. Scott and Jennifer then will come out to the house for a little while as far as I know now.

Gloria, that Little Big Shots show reminds me of the old Art Linkletter show "Kids Say the Darndest Things" as you never know what a small child is going to so.  I had the opportunity to meet and talk with Joan at the Atlanta Bash about 19 years ago as well as many other folks that participated in the old SeniorNet. I sue hope today is finding her feeling much better.

JaneS, I wonder how busy Walmart is during a blizzard.  It would probably be a pretty boring time to be a cashier.  Sure hope someone helps you with the shoveling.

Hal, I have been putting in a spoonful of salsa into Pat's scrambled eggs the last few times I have made them and she likes it.  Yesterday when we ate at Tin Lizzy's we had the spiciest food I think I may have ever eaten.  They really poor the red pepper on things including their fish and chicken tacos.

JeanneP, it sounds like your heaters must be doing the job for you in keeping you warm.  Maybe the light showers will help melt some of the snow but hope it doesn't turn to ice.  Glad you can stay in and safe.

Shirley, I started watching the NCAA Tourney last night, just the first game which was close throughout the game.  I am looking forward to tomorrow through the weekend when there are many games on TV.  I hope you won't remain silent for a week as you add a lot to the discussion.  Whoops, I see that was a short week in Kansas. :):)

Joy, hospital workers need to get to work regardless of the weather since so many people depend on them.  Glad the storm wasn't too bad in your area.

June, good to read that called for the help you knew you needed.  I am sure a good nights sleep was helpful and that you are feeling better today.

Jackie, we have lost many wonderful and caring people over the years.  It is like my men's coffee group who over the years has lost a fairly good number of men.

deAngel, I read or heard yesterday that snow had occurred in some part of South Carolina, I expect up close to the North Carolina border as it never got cold enough here to snow.

Pat, you certainly know how awful it is to be very sick.  I hope you are continuing to improve day by day.  Good to see your posting.

Good Morning everyone!
It is 21º and sun is shining very bright, burr.
I went back to bed and slept until 8: AM Ned to git out and get started on putting new tracks on bulldozer.
Shirley as long as we don't show up with a big stick it is sure ok to exercise
our opinion I think. as I said this is a great sight we all just need to keep a cool head and not sling mud .

Good morning,  A very windy and very cold morning here in Central Maryland.  The wind is really howling out my window.

We didn't get as much snow as they were predicting, but as long as it stays so cold,  it will stick around for a while.

All of my family made  out well getting to and from work.  Our schools were closed yesterday, but opened 2 hours late this morning.

Nothing special going on and I don't have anything special to do.

Pat,  so nice to hear from you.  Hope you are feeling a lot better.  As somebody else mentioned,  you have been missed.  Do you still able to get to your house down in Virginia???  I think there is where your other house is???   Probably not in the winter, I guess.  Do hope your husband and you are doing well.  Come back to visit us once in a while.

I was so hoping to see some news about Joan.  I guess no news is good news, as they say.  Hopefully, she resting well and getting better each day.  She sure is missed.

June,  sure hope you are feeling better this morning.  So glad you get such good care where you live now.

Larry,  your 36 degrees sounds wonderful.  It was only 17 º  when I first got on the computer this morning.  I don' think it is even supposed to get past the 20 º point today.   But, spring is on it's way, so the weatherman tells us.

Have a good day.

Good Morning Everyone!

Not much happening here, just a couple of emails to answer, drinking some coffee and reading the paper.  I read all the post and enjoyed catching up with everyone.  Was happy to see that most of you suffered no ill effects of the snow storm.  Weather here is kinda cloudy but not too cold, although the heater has been running.

Larry the old salsa hits to spot on things.  You can now get it in mild/medium/hot.  For years you got whatever was in the jar for salsa and Jalapeno's.  Not sure how they do that.  But I like the medium, you get the flavor but not so much of the burn.

Sandy, must be nice to have a "window" to the world, kinda reminds me of the old
of Jimmy Stewart where he played the guy with the broken leg and kept tabs on his neighborhood.  Was the move "Rear Window" ?  Especially when a storm, such as you had, passes through and you get to see all the activity or lack thereof.  By the way did you ever find your magnifying glass.

Lloyd, hope you don't get too cold working in the shop on the dozer.

Gloria, hows you back.  This brace I have seems to help.  It does give some support and helps the pain.

My wife got a birthday card from an old friend who is older than us (88) and she enclosed a poem, funny as all get out, but I am not going to include it, might shock some.

My coffee got cold sitting here, so going to warm it up....

CallieOK

 Good Morning,

Was hoping to see some news about Joan.

June,  I'm so very sorry to read about your fall.  This one really sounds serious and I'm so glad you live where there is good care for your recuperation.   Won't offer a hug because of your sore ribs - but here's a gentle  :aaah:  with love and prayers.

Miss Ellen was expecting several friends who are still in college to be in NYC during Spring Break this week.  Two had their flights cancelled but one was already there and had stayed overnight with Ellen.  This morning, another one posted pictures of Ellen's and her adventures on "Blizzard Day One".  Looked as if they were getting around town pretty well.

#1 son is bringing lunch today.  Hope it isn't a hamburger because, yesterday, I met a friend  for a restaurant's  "Hamburger Tuesday" ($5.00 for any burger and a choice of sides - more than half off some of the prices)  - and I'm still full!!!!

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day.

Lindancer

Good afternoon, very cold and windy sun is in and out.

Hoping to see something about Joan and nothing from June.

Gloria, we did have snow, sleet then rain, and again light snow. We did get the warm air from the ocean.

Amy, I am joining the crowd looking for those Johnny cakes. Thanks

June, as the old saying goes Misery loves co. To day after I finished my paddle exercises my leg manage to slip off the peddle and hit a sharp screw on the back on the back. Punched the back of my leg. I still have my leg up and  trying to managed the bleeding, which is always bad because of the blood thinner Same leg I had the other two wounds on..

Shirley my MIL always use to use White Lily flour for her biscuits and corn bread, also hush puppies (she made the  best) My husband would send for White Lily also. He made good corn bread, he put pepper cheese in it.  Which he ate with a glass of butter milk.

Hal, I am glad to see the brace is helping. My husband wore one.

The good news about my windows to the world (center of the city of Portland, Maine)   is that I never feel alone...    I can go sit by the windows and watch the people walking, driving,  gathering and moving on.     It makes me feel like I still have a connection to people,  even though they are just passing by.

I never did find the magnifying glass that I had purchased, and really liked....    So I went and bought me another one.    I bet someday I will come across the one that I missplaced..    (And then I will have two!)

Glad to see that your back is feeling better with a little help from that brace.

It is good to see everyone's posts.  Now I know all the news from around the world!

Shirley: My first visit to a dermatologist last year, he told me to buy Aquaphor for my allergy on my face - it is greasy so use just a little.  Daytime, I use a sun screen every day - very fair skin.  Good to see your post!

Gloria:  Loved the egoist explanation.

Lloyd:  Try Agave syrup sometime, lower in sugar.

Jane:  You spin circles around me - especially this week.

June:  Prayers for your healing.  put cushions all around your body.

Lindancer:  Prayers for your healing as well.

Sandy:  We missed a 31 inch snowfall one year (and the next day arrived home in Fort Collins).  There was only one item on the grocery shelf.  We were OK because there is always something in my cupboard learned from living in the countryside years ago (before the internet).  Be careful walking outside until all melts.  Keep on keeping on.....

JaneS

Carol, the circles are spinning much more slowly these days but I keep telling myself, "If I don't do it, who will.  It's still very windy and the snow is blowing around a lot.  The dogs won't even go off the sidewalk to go and I don't blame them.  At least they're doing it outside.

I'm off to Wally World.  I'm betting it will be dead because everyone has as much shoveling to do as I do.  Maybe they'll send us home early.  I'd volunteer to go.  I'm not happy about going today anyway.  Thank goodness, I have tomorrow off.  Gonna stay home and do nothing....I hope!

Update from Joe 😥

Update on Mom (Joan Lavelle)

One step forward and two steps back today.  When I arrived at the hospital this afternoon, Mom had just been taken of the ventilator and was doing ok, except that she couldn't talk due to scaring from the tube.

After 2 hours, she started to really labor to breath and the doctor directed the great team that is taking care of Mom to put her back on the vent.  Once they got her stabilized, I assured the team that Mom had been through this before and that she would build up the strength to come off the vent for good.

Thank you all for you prayers and well wishes!

And many thanks for the encouraging prayers for me. I feel pretty worthless at the present time, but being here with all of you is the best medicine ever. I am so very thankful you all made it safely through the storms.

Gloria de, How sorry i am for your latest injury dear heart. Don't hesitate to have the doctor check it out for you.

I am weary, recliner is yelling at me to get the body back there. I love you all..hugs,prayers and more love. June

Thanks for passing on the info about our Joan!  Sorry she took that step backward but I'm so happy she is getting the care she needs.

You too, June,  you mind the care people.  And you too, deAngel!  Don't wait to see a dr. about that leg.

I'm outta here.  Gonna take a bath in Epsom Salts.  Shirley would be proud of me!

Good morning everyone.

We escaped the snow here, only getting a wee bit and nothing to bother with other than the drifts. Warmer today at + 6°F . I do have a few things that must be done today and after that it is a free day for me.
Shirley, you got me googling...and yes I would say the two are similar...I also found recipes that had canned corn or cream corn in them !!

Larry, I thought  your wife might like this, it gave me a laugh.

The average freezer can hold approximately 326 fat quarters - The Guilty Quilter

Hal, glad that brace is helping you.

Gloria, that was a strong wind to blow the turbine over. We had high winds all day yesterday but thankfully they have stopped now.

Sandy, you have the best was of observing the weather, inside nice and cozy looking out.

Phyllis, I never knew about Johnnycake till I married and it has become a favorite of mine ,especially when there is new maple syrup!

June, I hope and pray your day is one of fulfillment for you. You certainly are an inspiration to others.

Jane, hope no shoveling for you today, can't believe we got off lucky this time .

Linedancer, hope your leg heals and doesn't give you a lot of trouble like before.

Joe/Denver ,thank you for the update on Joan. Prayers for all and hope each day is a better one for Joan.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  Lots of drifting snow overnight.  My neighbor came over and cleared what was left on my driveway and...

Amy, I had to reshovel the doggie space.  It had enough snow to come half way up the doggies.  Neither of them would go off the porch and there was enough snow ON the porch that they both chose to use it for a doggie john.

If they doggies chose to go into the fallen snow it would be about 8 inches over their heads!  The even hesitate to go into the shoveled and drifted areas!  This was a LOT of snow.  I think we got our "comeuppance" for being smug about not having any snow most of the winter.

I still tired and a bit sore from the shoveling so I'm going to take the day off until it's time to pick up TLH after school.  It;s supposed to be kind of warm today so maybe what's left on the driveway and the roads will melt.  Hope never dies.  Have a lovely day Everyfriend!
